Anyone experience leg or groin pain?

I am 3 weeks post op. Last week I began to have pain in my left calf. After a few days of it I asked my dh to massage it for me, which he did, rather vigorously. Afterward, I learned that we are in more danger of blood clots after pelvic surgery and prolonged rest and that massage, especially in a painful calf is a big no no. But it was too late, I had already done it. I did not phone my doctor, I just decided to watch it.  And the pain in the calf did lessen some, so maybe it was just a muscle spasm.  The past few days though I have a bruise like pain in my groin. At least I think its my groin...it's about the same place as the elastic in the leg of my underwear. I would worry more if it was only on the side of my left leg where I had the calf pain, but I feel the bruisy groin pain on both sides.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I know if I call my doctor they will send me to the emergency room right away. And while I know a blood clot is nothing to mess with, I also dont want to be the girl who cries wolf or panics at every ache and pain.  What do you think ladies?

tlee. You must contact your GP. You are right blood clots are common following pelvic surgery. Failing that go to A&E but don't just "wait and see". I'm a nurse so I know the signs. Get checked out. It may be nothing but better safe than sorry.

I am 3 months postop and recall having calf pain. I also had unexplained pain in other places that seemed to come and go and none has stayed around permanently. I was told to wear the tight white stockings day and night for a number of weeks. Are you doing that? I don't think you should muck around with this. I would get it checked out. Can you just give them a phone call and get their advice? Doctor or hospital where you had procedure done.

I would definitely ring for advice not worth the risk. was you given any injections into your tummy in hospital to help with risk of blood clots?. All the best.

Hi Tlee, I agree with the other ladies here, please call your doctor. Even if it's nothing it's important to get it checked out, no-one will think you are 'crying wolf'.

Thank you everyone for being so caring and looking out for me! I did speak to the nurse at my doctor's office, and she told me unless my leg is red or blue or swolen I dont need to worry. I dont know that I agree with her since I've read many stories from women who ended up with a blood clot and their only symptom was calf pain, no swelling or discoloration. My calf pain is still there but it has also moved up to behind my knee and back of my thigh as well. I'm keeping an eye on it. Thanks again!

Don't know that I believe her either tlee. My friend had one last year and her only symptom was calf pain. Go see your GP.
