Anyone Experience This.... Sharp pains all day???

So first, what a great and informative place!

I have not been formerly diagnosed with Gerd yet. But I am going on next week to see specialist. I have a feeling it won't be good news. :-(

But today I am having non-stop stabbing pain when breathing in deeply or exhaling deeply and also when laying on my right side or back! And I've taken 40mg Omeprazol today along with some Pepto and Alka seltzer.

Prior to today, I've experienced acid reflux and bloating. Normally the omeprazol works well. Not today. I've never had this pain and discomfort ALL day!

I'm just trying to distinguish and see if any of you have/had this??? I can't fathom racking up tons of $$$$ medical bills for heart and lung tests... :-(

Hi Marc:  From my personal experience, GERD pain is usually described as burning in the esophagus or stomach.  I think you will need more medical tests to determine what is causing that stabbing pain.  Three organs in particular can cause that type of pain, gall bladder, pancreas and appendix.  You need to find out if the tests show insufficient function of any organs.  Bloating can be caused by bad bacteria in the small intestine, or missing enzymes from gall bladder or liver.  Sometimes Pepto bismol will reduce the bloating, but it usually requires 3 large doses 2 hours apart.  Then eat probiotic yogurt every day.  Just to recap; It only takes one gall bladder stone to cause a lot of pain.  Get those test results and let us know what you find out.  Regards, Jonathan

Do you get the burning sensation all the time? Mine comes and goes and i am on 20mg of omeprazole. I have had them stabbing pains before.to the point where i nearly went a&e i couldnt move with them the pains were so bad. but as quickly as they came they went..i sat at a 90degree angle and it did ease the pain. I still am.waiting to be referred to a specialist but so far no luck, unfortunatly the GPs keep saying im to young to have reflux (im 22) i have argued though that younf infants get reflux silent reflux so my age shouls not even come in to it!

Why are you taking Alka seltzer can't see how that would help if you have reflux.

The PPI should work on its own BUT they take around 4-6wks of constant use before you start to see the benefits, you don't take one pill and the pain goes away.

I would focus on just taking the PPI, 30 mins at the start of the day before you take any food is the recommended approach to get best effect

When I took my ppi drug on an empty stomach it caused nausea and vomiting.  I could only take it by spilling out about 20% of the capsule and take it with food and water.  These ppi drugs have recently been tied with liver and kidney damage, demensia, bone loss and causing the stomach to grow more proton pumps.  Even though they can be helpful, they are equally causing as many symptoms and damage as they help.  The experts are saying to go back to ant acids like gaviscon and tums.  The drug companies advertize no more heartburn, but only put it very small print that these are only to be taken for 14 days.  Never any longer.  But doctors make money on them so they won't tell you that.

Cars are killing people every day, the car companies don't advertise that fact but we all continue to drive them why?

Yet we worry about a little tablet that might cause some damage but it won't kill us.

My GERD never caused heartburn or any othger symptom apart from intense chest pains which radiated into my upper back. Had all the cardio tests (including CT angiogram)...everything normal. Also had ultrasound of all the organs (liver, kidneys, pancreas, spleen etc) all OK, tested for Hpylori...negative

GERD was diagnosed through endoscopy. The effectve PPI doasge for me was 20mg Pariet X 2 daily...to be taken half hour before breakfast and dinner; however i found that that caused burning in stomach and esophagus so i would take the meds a minute or so before i ate and it worked well.
