Anyone had a posterior approach ?

would be interested to know if anyone's had a posterior THR. and share experiences. I am 6 weeks post op. Walking round house unaided but have dreadful waddle. Still need one crutch outdoors. At physio I asked if I can lie on non operated side (yes) but didn't ask about operated side or tummy.

My surgery was a great success, no limp, no pain. I was back playing tennis and
raquetball 3-4 months after surgery and started playing hockey 1 yr post op.
7/25, I will be having the other hip done, I am expecting/hoping, I have the same success.
Good luck with your rehab etc....

It's nice to hear people are getting back to raquet sports after hip replacement. I was an avid pickleball player. Do you know pickleball? It's growing in popularity all around the world. Anyway, I just loved it and played lots. But haven't been able to play really at all in the past year. My doctor has said she doesn't want me to ever go back to playing pickleball. That's discouraging for me. Much that I read says it is OK to go back to recreational doubles tennis so I figure if people can do that, they can go back to pickleball. The court is much smaller than a tennis court -- and I only play doubles. For sure I am going to be patient in healing especially this first 3 months. Then I am going to work very hard at getting as strong as I can be before I even think of getting back on the courts. So I think at least 6 months, maybe more. Fingers crossed. I'm 67.

I am sure you have heard this before, I would listen to what the Dr. tells you.
Good luck with your rehab !!!
I intend to play tennis the day before my surgery.

Yes, many pickleball people are ex-tennis players. The much smaller court does make it easier to play.
I will listen to my doctor.....sort of. I did promise her that I would be smart about it. I used to play 5-6 days a week. That was too much. I need to find other things to enjoy -- and I do like walking, biking, line dancing....etc. And I definitely wasn't one of the top players around but I was good enough to go to tournaments and win the occasional medal. I don't think I'll make that my focus this time around. I'll be in it for the exercise and, as someone mentioned, it's a hugely social sport so that will be a real focus. Not winning.......... It is a very addictive sport though!

You have varied intrests, which is good !!
I started a few years ago swimming laps, the key to that is using an underwater ipod !! I would rather be playing various raquet sports or hockey but my body likes swimming better !! I still usually play raquetball 2/wk and tennis once.

An underwater iPod? Is that an autocorrect or something I've never heard of? I've never been an avid swimmer but I used to go to waterfit classes and enjoyed those. I think that is something I'll get back to. Actually, what I love most is hot tubs and so that is always my reward for getting myself to the pool! Some people have told me they contribute their good recovery to just walking in the water at the pool. I can see doing that. I'm not sure when I'll get the OK to go to the pool. I'll talk with the Physio. I'm sure the incision has to be completely healed. I did go to the pool some before my surgery and the last time, when I was feeling lots of pain in my hip, I used my cane and found it was very slippery walking around the sides of the pool. I definitely don't want to go there and fall! Maybe once I get the OK, I'll use the walker.
