Anyone had corrective surgery for THR uncemented ??

I had revision surgery in March to replace a metal on metal Hip replacement. Original surgery, I thought was a success, in 2009 until I experienced extreme pain , unable to walk unaided last summer. High levels of cobalt and chromium resulted in replacement surgery.  Anyone else with similar tale? I am 45 yr old female.

I keep hearing about those metal on metal implants and the problems they caused, glad you are replacing yours.  I did not know what type implant i had until just recently (lack of curiosity i guess), and i found out i had a titanium stem with a ceramic head.  Good luck with your new hip and recovery...my second hip was done in March also..

Hi, I had a metal on metal hip replacement in 2008 due to an accident. After reading media reports about metal  implants I asked if my blood could be checked to see if the metal ions were normal. I discovered that they were extremely high and further tests revealed further issues. I was advised to have revision surgery and this was done just over 2 years ago. Everything now is fine and I have no further problems. It was an extremely traumatic time though and I can understand how you feel as the recovery process was quite long.    Christine

    Hi Jackie,

I also had a metal on metal hip implant in 2009. Only minor pains until now, but it didn't feel right, so it was investigated and found to have tissue growths around it, with high levels of cobalt in my blood. Had my pre-op assessment today, and am now waiting for revision op - surgeon will replace with ceramic on ceramic, he said.

How did your revision go? Did you take longer to recover? And how is your hip now, three months on? Mine has just this week started to hurt more, and is definitely more "clicky"!

The revision went well, I was back in my office job after 5 weeks. It's been really important to do my exercises as the strengthening process has been slow. Just stopped using my stick on a daily basis ( week 14).  Will use the stick for longer walks. Had been in the pool kicking my legs using a float and just this week, swam in the sea doing breast stroke.  Am not experiencing any pain, long may it last.  I still experience klick ing..think it's ligament or excess tissue?? Good luck with revision surgery!

Thanks Jackie. Well done on such a quick recovery. Five weeks seems awfully soon to go back to work to me! But everyone is different, and it sounds as if you keep pretty fit. I've had a few other health issues this year and don't feel that fit, so I had better start the exercises today!lol

I was told at my pre-op assessment yesterday that I wouldn't have the pretty white pressure stockings - YAYYY! - but a month of tablets instead. Can't remember the name of them.
