Anyone had hip replacement following congenital hip disorder?

Hi All,
New to this forum. I have just seen my surgeon who is proposing right hip replacement (due to bone on bone rather than oesteoporosis). I was born with hip displacement so have had prior surgery - just wondering if anyone else is in / has been in the same boat and the outcome?
I am 37 years old. Thank you!

Hi Caron. I had tlhr to my left hip in October. I'm not as young as you, I'm in my sixties, but I also had bone on bone. I'm having my 3 month post op appointment with the consultant & physios 19th january & I have to say it's the best thing I ever did. I returned to the office at 7 weeks and stopped using crutches/sticks within a week of doing that. I couldn't be happier. You really will be in good hands & there's a plethera of people on this forum who will encourage you. The care is excellent as is the after care. best of success to you with your procedure Caron. Ray

I also was born with hip displacement. They called it. Congenital hip displacement. I am now 47 and had my left hip replaced almost 11 weeks ago. I had OA for 12 years so had bone on bone pain for most of it.
Since the op. It has been really good. Apart from having really weak muscles on my left side and still having a limp for now.
But no pain from bone on bone now.
Good luck. X

Hi lovie , I'm 35 and 14 weeks post op total hip replacement. Born with hip displacement, suffered for many years in agony, became completely housed bound for a year before surgery. I'm so glad I had it done but it's a long recovery and for me has been made so much longer because I had ridiculous amounts of muscle wastage before surgery. So it's like building up muscles from nothing. The fitter you are before surgery the quicker the recovery will be . X

HI Caron. I am also new to this site. I am 16 years old and a recent X-Ray that I had done due to a painful hip showed that I haven't a hip socket in my left hip. I have seen a consultant and am having a MRI scan next week. I have been told that I will be having an operation to try to right this. Any help or information from anyone who has a similar problem would be very much appreciated.
Kind regards
Emmerline

I was born with hip dysplasia. Not sure if same thing as hip displacement. I had that leg shorter and age 12 had surgery on opposite knee where drs inserted staples, 24 of them, to stop growth of leg so other leg could catch up. But as time went on hip just kept getting worse causing leg to get shorter. Had hip replacement but dislocated after 3 weeks then had to have revision. Has been a long recovery. Am still only 5 months out next week from second surgery. No bone pain, but lots of discomfort from muscles, tendons, nerves and tissue. Have slight limp but it's gotten a lot better!! Had a lot of groin discomfort too but that's gotten better too. Am now going to gym again but taking it slow as I'm still on hip precautions. Hope for the best for a speedy recovery for you. 🤠 LD

I have hip dyplasia and had a replacement 6 years ago at 46 years old. I had a lot of groin and leg pain after my replacement and had a tendon released a year later to relieve the pressure. I had no pain after that. My hip socket was about 50% normal size prior to surgery.
