Anyone had the FS get worse with Physical Therepy?

My doctor pulled me from Physical Therepy as my pain was getting much worse every time I went.  My neck and upper back were very painful (more so than usual if you can belive that).  I mean my neck, upper back where the neck and back connect were swollen several inches, you could see it. Has anyone else had anything similar? I am doing some light PT excercises at home CAREFULLY. I don't like feeling like I am not doing anything to improve the FS.

Injection under xray next week, maybe that will do something. Thanks for letting me complain today.

      Hi Karen,

I'm sorry for your situation. Maybe Hydrodilation will take a little time to work. This is a frustrating situaiton for all of us, that's for sure.

I wish you a good nights sleep tonight.

I'm a big believer in listening to your body, when it comes to physio.  I know some people take the "no pain no gain" approach and talk about "tearing" at adhesions.  I'm convinced this approach does more harm than good.  The approach of the physiotherapists and doctors I've come across seems to be gentle stretching and stop if it hurts.  I know when my shoulder was bad, if I overdid things, I suffered for it afterwards and it certainly didn't gain me anything.

Good luck with the injection - is it hydrodilatation or just a guided cortisone injection?  I know it doesn't work for everyone but I've had good results from my hydrodilatation and am now on the mend.

I think everyone is right. I think I've been overdoing it.

Maria, my doctors office is a bit odd, they weren't able to clarify the injection when I asked... That being said, they are going to sedate me, does that sound like what you had?

Hope everyone feels better. Thanks for the helpful replies!

I agree.  I've been going for Physical Therapy twice weekly for 3 weeks and also doing the exercises at home.  I went for a massage on Sunday, and have been in such pain since then, that I had to cancel my therapy appointment for this morning.  I'm disappointed, because I felt like I was making some progress with therapy, but I just didn't want to deal with the pain today.  I had a horrible night sleeping, just couldn't get comfortable in bed, didn't want to disturb my husband, so came downstairs and slept in a reclining chair with my heating pad on my shoulder.  I'm going on a vacation in under two weeks, and I just want to be where I was before I had that massage.

I wasn't sedated for the hydrodilatation - just had a local anaesthetic before the guided injection of saline and cortisone.  Mine wasn't painful - just a little discomfort.  I can't understand why your doctor is being so vague - they should be willing to discuss the procedure with you in detail.  I was given a leaflet, explaining the procedure in addition to that.  I'd be inclined to ask to speak to someone who knows, so at least you know what you are in for.  Good luck!

I wasnt sedated for hydrodolation altough i think it would have been more successful if i was. I had maximum dose of local anaesthetic. Had the needle and then the saline and air no hydrocortisone, it became so painful they had to stop. It was painful but then he said my joint is very very tight so they have now recommended surgery to be honestvindont care ive been in pain forv so.long and restricted movement and life now after 2 years some thing has to be done x

I am recovering from shoulder surgery, although this was a little over six months ago.  I was attending physio for some time after and although I had full range of movement, was advised to do exercises to strengthen the shoulder.  However, even though I followed the advice to the letter - never overdoing the exercises or weights, I was in much more pain after each session.  I had some treatment with a chinese therapist (acupuncture and wet cupping) but she said I should not be exercising until I was completely healed.  Feeling I had nothing to lose and still keeping my shoulder very mobile, I followed her advice and touch wood, a great improvement.  I also started taking a Rosehip supplement about a month ago. Now maybe this is all just a coincidence but I went to the gym again last Saturday and used VERY light weights, very gently and lo and behold, pain again Saturday night. I totally agree listening to one's own body is key.

Everyone!  Please make sure you we not eating anything with Erythritol in it such as Truvia or Zero Water if you have neck and shoulder muscle spasms as in pain. This was my source of pain for 4 years. Who would have thought...Truvia is not really Stevia other than 1% or so. The rest of the sweetener is man made and fermented with yeast in a vat!  So much for truth in advertising...
