Anyone have 100% success with Ablation?

Hi,
My name is Danielle, I just joined the forums for some support. I am 31 years old and had my first catheter ablation about 6 weeks ago for ventricular tachycardia. I've been reading a lot of different stories online about those who have had ablation and I have yet to read at least one story that resulted in 100% success. It seems like many people have still had issues after the surgery and others have had 2 or 3 more ablations. I had a really great doctor and he assured me that he got all the areas that were causing the arrhythmia. I went from have several really bad episodes a day to none at all but just a few days ago the palpitations returned, not severe like they were but I constantly feel dizzy or light headed. I would be so disappointed if the surgery didn't work. It's only been a little over a month since the surgery and I don't go back to the cardiologist until another two months so the heart is still healing and these recent palpitations might be nothing to worry about but I am just wondering how many people have had full success with their ablation? How long have you been cured? And did you have episodes in between your healing before they were finally gone for good?

You have your hands more than full, Jennifer. I encourage you to do lots of information gathering and then make a decision both you and your Dr. feel confident with. I've considered a pacemaker multiple times during my decades of SVT. The typical recipient I've talked with has been very positive about his or her results. I wish the very best for you.

I'll offer some more thoughts, Danielle, hoping they'll help. Reliable medical sources report very high success rates with ablation, and at very low risk. Still, it took many years for me to agree to ablation. Imagining folks messing with the electrical parts of my heart was far from comforting. As time went by, technology improved, and my SVT became much more frequent. I gradually changed my thinking. It took two ablations, but I got to a much better place and am very pleased to be here.
My readings and other experiences tell me that your current situation is "normal", and that you may soon do better. Be sure that your health care people know about your dizziness and light headedness. They might be related to your understandable anxieties about your still misbehaving heart, and thus lessen as your heart does better, but they are important symptoms. I still have lots of ectopics ("extra" beats), very short "runs", and such, but I'm learning to ignore more and more of such stuff. It doesn't much matter in an otherwise healthy heart.
I'm wishing the very best for you and looking forward to reading what you write in future to support "newbies" with this pain-in-the-posterior malady. Take care.
