Anyone have a good experience with statins?

I have a high cholesterol count, 8, although my good chol is v good so the ratio is 2. I don't really understand all this and I get the feeling my doctor doesn't either. When it was at about 7 last year one doctor said as I have no other contributory factors ( ie I am slim, fit non smoking) I don't need to go on statins. Now anouther doc withthe new results said I should. I went on patient.info and looked up cholesterol meds and everything is so bad. LOADS of people saying they made them ache some so much that they couldn't walk properly. Has anyone had a good experience with statins?

I found peanut butter (no salt or added sugar one) has taken the pain away.Definitely works for me,
must be some chemical in it that balances out the statin problem.

To answer KC and the Sunshine Band, yes there are people who take statins and don't have the nasty side effects. And the drugs are very effective at lowering cholesterol in most people.
BUT consider this, It's impossible to prove in any individual that a cardiac event would have happened if you were not taking the drug. Stop and think about this one for a while. Someone else pointed this out to me and It took me several years before reality struck. It really is impossible to prove taking any pill prevents a heart attack.
To prove it, you would have to prove the individual would have otherwise suffered a heart attack had they not been taking the statin, and that can't be done.
Consumers who don't suffer side effects are generally happy with their statin because it lowered their cholesterol. This is because of consumer perception that lower cholesterol equates to lower risk. But in the real world, are cholesterol levels and clogged arteries really related?
We shouldn't forget the cholesterol hypothesis is a theory. There are multiple theories on Atherosclerosis, and as unpleasant as it may sound, its true that when we take a pill, any pill that is directed to preventing heart disease, heart attacks and strokes, we are tossing pills at a theory.
