Anyone have a high alkaline phosphate test with their PMR ?

I had a liver scan and it was normal.  The sed rate test was also high but this seems normal at first.

Hi debkimly, yes it is often the case that SED rates are higher on diagnosis of PMR because it is an indication of inflamation. Hopefully when on the correct dose of preds it should return back to normal. Sometimes when on preds if the level goes back up again it is an indication that you need a higher dose of  preds because The inflamation is not being quite controlled by the preds. Christina

My alkaline phosphate was normal but I believe it can happen to a minor extent with vit D deficiency along with other things. It really depends how high.

It is very common to find a raised alk phos in PMR - but a lot of doctors appear not to know that and panic and assume either you are an alcoholic (happened to me, consultant of middle-eastern extraction even gave me the bright yellow infusion used for patients in detox) or have something nasty and send you for a liver scan, The radiologist who did mine said she had far more normals than problems and it was a knee-jerk reaction by some doctors to raised alk phos or mention of an alcoholic drink!

Hello Eileen, I'm most interested in this question of raised alk phosphate, because I have a problem with a liver reading, gamma gt and if I've heard it once I've heard it a million times, 'how much do you drink?' When I reply that I'm completely t total they raise their eye brows. Any way my last gamma gt reading was lower and the consultant although still concerned is very pleased. Christina

They never believe people do they! Both alk phos and gamma gt can be raised in various inflammatory arthritic diseases. Don't know why, they just are and it is a well known fact.

Took about 3 min on google...

Eileen what are the chances of you moving back to good old England, cornwall in particular, camborne to be really precise and setting up a clinic?

i don't think there would be enough hours in the day for you to get round all of the patients whose clinicians 'never believe people'. Have a good day, christina

Wouldn't do you any good - don't have a medical degree! Your weather is rubbish anyway - rains too much ;-)

I'm doing my best, a couple of us advise a research group.

Thanks for the input. I have only been on the predisone for a week.  I am hoping time will drop the levels.  I find it amazing how quickly it came on.
