Anyone have both BPPV & Vestibular Migraine?

some I know will disagree with me regarding that I think I have 2 types of dizziness. I get spinning rotational vertigo when I have bppv. The vestibular migraine dizziness is not as intense eg can get up and move about. Where bppv lands me in bed. I can barely move my head. With vestibular migraine I constantly feel off balance, suffer motion sickness and rock/sway. The floor feels like a trampoline. I probably get 15 headaches a month with it but not always. I have had a hell of a time telling all the consultants that I am positive l have two disorders. Thankfully I think the latest one might believe me! My question is has anyone had the same? Also I am sure that if the bppv could be treated then I would be able to cope with the VM more. If it’s not VM symptoms it’s vertigo. I get no relief. Are there any surgical  procedures for bppv? I have had epley, semont, Brandt-Daroff and VRT none of which have helped..... thank you

    Hi Sarah

?I have both BPPV on occasions and also silent migraines which causes visual vertigo.  At one time I had both at the same time and was in a heap on the floor.  The silent migraines were more debilitating as they affected 'everything', my balance, my vision and my special awareness.

?I was put on nortriptyline for the silent migraines.  I had unsuccessful epley manoeuvres for the BPPV and usually these went off on their own once the cystals disloged or dissolved,

?It took 2 years to be diagnosed with the silent migraines though and the best advice I had from the consultant was not to get the 2 separate conditions mixed up as I thought it was all one condition I had going on.

?Hope you get some effective help, the nortriptyline did help me but I was eventually referred to an otoneurologist as I was getting nowhere with ENT but I still don't think I will ever be 100% free of the dizzies but have learned to live with it.  It all started for me about the age of 55 during the menopause.

    All best wishes

    Anne.

Anne thank you apologies for late reply, a day of vertigo 😞. Very much the same as me. I got diagnosed with VM this summer although there was thought from other consultants before that but they would not commit. Yes I get the same “everything “ is off. I am starting topamax soon for the migraines but it sounds like a hellish drug to tolerate. The bppv seems to be worse with lack of sleep for me in fact as well as the VM. Good advice you had, mine was a battle to convince them it was two types of symptoms! I am under a neuro in London now - same as you ENT was pretty useless.

I agree I think once  you get something like this you always have dizziness. I guess I am getting used to it as over three years in. Mine started a year after a full hysterectomy ( from nowhere) I often think there is a link between hormones and VM but got laughed off the park.

I am 53 so just thankful if it was going to happen it was in my later years as a young person must really struggle.

      wishing you well too

I think there is definitely a link for me with the menopause.  I still think my neck also affects the whole issue as I have a bulging neck disc, I think it is also worse in winter when my neck gets stiffer too.  Some days are worse than others but it's always lurking in the background.   The consultant I saw told me the oldest person he had ever diagnosed with silent migraines was in their 90's.  Chocolate seems to be the biggest trigger for me, as the day after if I have overindulged I am all over the place like the drunken sailor.

It took 2 years to the MAV diagnosis and the consultant said if I had been diagnosed sooner rather than wasting time with ENT as he put it,  he could have helped me recover faster but now it would take longer as more damage had been done.

      ?All best wishes.  Anne

    Good morning Sarah68084,

I have Vertigo since January this year. What I can say reqading you symptoms is that any person suffering Vertigo is reacting in different ways. You can check on YouTube " Eplye Monuvre" and do the Manuvre every day at home. For me this Manuvre was works perfectly.
