Anyone have the same anxiety as me?

After trawling through endless sites about anxiety I have never came across anyone who has anxiety like I do. I read about panic attacks and i don't seem to get them like other people so thought it would be easier to post here and see if anyone can relate and maybe have some tips on how to deal with it. When i first started having panic attacks I felt perfectly well when I was at home but when I went outside I would suddenly start to feel sick and like I was going to pass out, I didn't feel any panic about anything just felt ill, after 7 months of being unable to leave the house I was put on citalopram which worked great for 5 yrs, I came off them and was fine for about a year. I went back on citalopram but unfortunately it didn't work as well. Anyway 4 yrs later and a few different medications down the line, I am off the medication but feel really unwell all the time, which I know is anxiety. I haven't been out for 3 weeks, the thought of it makes me feel worse. I have nothing to feel anxious about so don't understand it!! Does anyone else have anxiety like this? And is there anything i can do about it without medication?? Thanks for reading

    Hi Gilly

    It sounds like you have Agoraphobia - have you ever had therapy for your anxiety? This may help you. Did no other medication help you?

    Unfortunately life without meds may be hard for you. A combination of CBT and medication may be best shout. You do need speak to a GP though, i'd say, and say what they offer.

    What medications have you tried in the past other than cit?

    Hi Gilly

    My anxiety is very similar to yours.Mine is panic disorder with agoraphobia plus on going anxiety just to complete the hideousness.I have struggled for 14 years ......cant take the pills from doctor.This is a list of treatments tried to date ;

    drugs,CBT,hypnotherapy,reiki,meditation,yoga,EFT,binaural beats,I have 52 different supplements and i have just ordered Alpha Stim device plus I booked an appointment with a healer.I have felt much better with Non flush niacin in industrial amounts,but its costing me a fortune.I add lemon balm,theanine,magnesium,and tryptophan.I have just ordered picamilon from amazon.I can do the shopping, drive and work with only slight sense of anxiety.I can definitely do stuff with more confidence.When the niacin is wearing off the return off those feelings makes me panic thats why ive sent for alpha stim.It produces alpha waves in the brain which make you feel calm.So we shall see if I add this to the long list of failures or to the very short list of helpful.Lets try EVERYTHING surely one day we will find the answer!!!

    Hi Gillian,  I have been fighting GAD for the past 20 years.  I used to think i was the only person who had it but soon found out i was not alone and neither are you.  Firstly GAD is normally heriditary so you might find somewhere in your family someone has had it or depression or OCD. It get triggered by something that happens in your life normally something that was out of your control.  It comes from being afraid of something that you cannot control or cannot get out of.  Or a traumatic experiece like the death of a loved one.  With people that dont suffer from GAD they would handle their thoughts very differently to someone who has GAD.  We focus on our thoughts and almost make them a reality. What we need to do it actually push them aside and forget about them.  I had to push myself to get up and go to work and put make up on and just leave the house.  Driving a car was the most stressful.  I found by pushing myself into the situations i was most afraid of did help to a certain degree.  Unfortunately you have got to go on medication to assist you with the GAD.  If you can get the symptoms under control you will automatically start feeling better and therefore start being more positive.  I also hate tablets and i certainly didnt want to take them but i know that i have to.  Its really not a bad thing to take meds if they going to help you then do it.  Dont worry about what anyone has to say just do it.  Im on serrapress 20mg daily and im feeling so much better today and its been just over 2 weeks that i started them again.  I took xanor for the first week with the meds just to assist me with the side effects as my heart was racing.  Hope this helps and please keep in touch with me so i know how you are doing and remember you not alone.  Much Love
