Hi bluefairy. I've been on escitalopram 15mg every morning (best time to take it) for over 4yrs now, & it works well for me in controlling anxiety & depression - keeping me as the real me. with most ad's there are temp side effects when you start them or increase the dose which usually subside within 2-4wks. i got increased anxiety, dry mouth, more tiredness, & small pupils, this all went within 2-4wks. You should start to feel better within 4-6wks of starting if this ad is going to suit you & also if you are on the right dose. it is always best to start off lower & then increase dose if necessary to minimise side effects, & also to see what your optimum dose is .(you will know when you reach the best dose for you as you will simply start feeling more like yourself). you should keep in regular contact with your doc & not increase dose or stop without talking to doc first. if you have any terrible thoughts or feelings you must go to your doctor urgently - but this is very unlikely. if you can , i would give it 4-6wks on your current dose of 10mg & see your doc at the end of that period to review how you are doing & whether you need to increase or not. hope this helps to re-assure a bit hun. take care, & let us know on here how you are getting on. xx

100% agree with looloo43. don't change your dose up or down without consultation with your doc. it took me almost 8 weeks to really notice a difference. Patience and deep breathing and do your best to counter negative thoughts. You'll get there!

I have been on Lexapro (escitalopram ) 10mg for panic disorder for nearly a year now. It does take a full 6 months for the tablets to reach their full affect that being said it does not mean that it wont happen sooner so be patient and stay on the treatement. I would say try anything else but increasing your dosage!!! they are not addictive but from what i have read they have horrible side affects coming off them. The less you take the easier it will be. Have you thought about meditating and seeing a pshycologist ?. Mine did take the panic attacks away but i felt like they increased my depression which is increasing my anxiety so im thinking of coming off them. There is many natural things that you can start trying whilst your on them such as Rescue remedy , Stress management oils, chamomile tea and meditation music + breathing excercises. The tablets wont kill your anxiety i have had to learn that the hard way, the tablets will only take the edge off for you to be okay enough to work on yourself and get yourself better!!.Â
Deffinitely think you should speak to a pshycologist before upping your dosage.
Hope this helps !!
