There are plenty of alternatives to amlodipine, such as felodipine, but carvedilol is a fairly specialist beta blocker. What are you taking the latter for?

Although Felodipine is an alternative I am on it with Ramipril and have lower back pain which goes down my leg at night and stops me sleeping.

The pain you describe sounds like classic sciatica, seeing an osteo/chiropractor will confirm.

It is for BP I had an aortic valve replaced on Coumadin.

But if you have these pains when you stop the amlodipine, it's probably not the amlodipine.  And I don't know that beta blockers should cause muscle pains either, though I suppose anything is possible.  Have you got back to your doctor about these pains, could have other causes.

Chris, if you can find a nautropathic doctor or a chiropractor.. yes I said chiropractor.. you would benefit.. all diseases start in the nervous system, which medical doctors are not trained to see.. their specialty is drugs and more drugs but they can't give you the route cause of anything.. The body is all connected and not treated by a doctor for this and a doctor for that.. Please look into it..and get off of those dangerous drugs.. the only people they make happy are doctors and the drug companies...

Good for you Chris, I wish you the very best of health.. There has been a long fight for decades between the AMA and chiropractors.  now they are finally being recognized as they should be.  The bias against them is not unlike the media when some have an agenda..

When I had a bad reaction to amlodipine, my doctor switched me to metoprolol tartrate and I've had no problems.  I'm also on ziac and losartan

.  Lots of options out there, but it's just a case of trying them until you get the right balance. Good luck.
