Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram?
Posted , 526 users are following.
Hi there,
After much deliberation, talking to just about anyone I could find and generally scouring the internet for information, I have decided to go with the Docs advice and take Citalopram, starting today. And then I found this site....
Has anyone NOT had any side effects on this? It is making me feel very worried about taking it. Am I just going to have to sit tight and presume the worst? Are there people who take it and dont feel nauseous and tired or even worse to begin with?
I would really appreciate any comments.
Thanks
M

Well I'm coming to the end of week 7 and I've been getting myself in a bit of a tizz because I don't feel like myself. After much discussion with my wife I've come to the realisation I'm never going to feel like the old me again. I have spent most of my life living with anxiety, not a day passed when I wasn't worried about something, the smallest of problems would have me over thinking and stressing. I know everyone says it takes 6-8 weeks to get the full effects of cit but I'm finding its going to take me longer to get used to the anxiety free me, it's a bit like carrying a heavy ball all your life then someone taking it away, for a while your going to feel like you've lost something. Anxiety was all I knew, it was what made me feel awake and alive, now I'm settling I'm not sure what to do with myself.

Good to see some of us are improving ... Loulyn, yup, the grinding can cause all sorts of pains, usually related to the Temporomandibular joint (your jaw joint) as the capsule that basically covers it gets inflamed and then pain can be referred from that along the nerve pathways. Grinding is common in SSRI use but generally settles down (I'm a dentist by the way lol) I would get a soft splint made if it continues though
How are my fellow 7.5 odd weekers doing? (Mike, Spence, Matilda and some others I think)? I thought I was making some headway but have been hit again by the shakes and anxiety, especially when I wake up. Dreadful feeling it is too. Today hasn't been a great day (anxious, shaky, down, weak) but then I've had a cold (or it might be a touch of allergy to all the fields of oilseed rape that surround us here) so that may be making things a touch worse. My sleeping pattern has crashed too. I'm hoping this is a blip as I'm getting to the point where I've had enough and need some sort of normailty back.
Anyway, enough complaining (it's hard not to sometimes!). I hope we all have a good weekend and Easter break. This dentist intends to eat plenty of chocolate!
take care everyone

I'm on day 3 and have high expectations of this drug although I'm getting little sleep and having a dry mouth at night - had put all that down to the anxiety but I guess its just as likely to be the Citalopram.
Reading your message has made me think about my life. I just thought all the anxiety, stress and depression was normal and that I just couldn't function in certain situations because I was not skilled or competent to handle them. I think now its due to anxiety and stress leading to me feeling low and goofing up things in my life that then going on to feed the cycle and make me depressed!
I'm really hoping this treatment works for me and I'm not bothered by amy side effects.
Best J

Just saying to Loulyn I not sure how this new set up is working as not many updating so dont know if its cause we cant see the updates as u are replying to one person or everyone is feeling good and keeping busy away from the internet, which would be nice.

I'm here, but what a faffing about to get here
It's enough to put a girl off her Easter eggs!! (that's a lie ... nothing would put me off my chocolate
)
Rick, that's fab info regarding the grinding, thanks so much for that. I had the test done for temporal ariatis (I think it's called) and that was clear. Actually I had it done twice ... once in December when the temple pain first started and I freaked myself out by reading the net and all the things it could be. I got into a state of high anxiety (pre cit) overnight and called NHS24 in the morning and went to hospital where I had the test. Then, around wk 2 on cit it came back and my doc did the test. I didn't remind him that I'd had it as I wanted even more reassurance
I have to say though, that I'm not nearly as bad now thanks to our friend cit
What is the soft splint you mention? Is it a mouthguard thingy?
I hope your feeling a bit better than you were a couple of days ago and you've managed to get a decent sleep (and plenty chocolate, but not at bedtime hehe)
Amy, I think we've all got lost in the maze, I've given up a couple of times myself as it's so time consuming to find what you're looking for now. Very frustrating
Anne, hope you're not working too hard this Easter and managing to get a bit of that big shiny thing in the sky over Edinburgh just now, not quite sure what it is but I like it

Have a lovely chocfest Easter everyone
Love Loulyn x

I definitly agree about the health anxiety, its what mine was all about only mine was about my 4 year old son, since christmas i took him to the doctors for the silliest of things (which i can now see were silly - however at the time i needed the reassurance from a doctor), i no longer panic everytime he falls over or has a little mark on his skin that wasnt there before, so i guess i am making progress :-). He had a door smacked into his head a few days ago whilst playing with my niece, he had a big lump come up on his head which has changed to various colours over the last few days, and i was so pleased at how i handled the situation rather than having a complete meltdown.
Hope your having a good day
