Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram?

Posted , 526 users are following.

Hi there,

After much deliberation, talking to just about anyone I could find and generally scouring the internet for information, I have decided to go with the Docs advice and take Citalopram, starting today. And then I found this site....

Has anyone NOT had any side effects on this? It is making me feel very worried about taking it. Am I just going to have to sit tight and presume the worst? Are there people who take it and dont feel nauseous and tired or even worse to begin with?

I would really appreciate any comments.

Thanks

M

Thanks for that Amy, and smashing to know you're feeling sunny today too, long may it continue honey biggrin

Yes! I had exactly the same experience re the different brand. I kept hold of the old pack just in case there was any difference but everything was fine and as you say, it's just supplied from another company wink

Mo, it's really useful to know that after increasing to 20 mg it took you another few weeks to settle. I'm about to start my 3rd week on the 20 & my jaw is so tight my lower teeth were aching when I woke up this morning and as much as I try not to clench during the day I find it impossible to relax it, I must be doing it subconsciously & every so often the pain hits sad  Hopefully that will wear off but I'm seeing my dentist on Friday about a mouth guard as it's something I'm prone to but not to this extent mad

Have a good day everyone, keep smiling cheesygrin I'm on a late shift today so I better get a move on rolleyes

      Hi all

its good to hear of examples of it working and reading about Loulyn and others feeling great.

i posted a week ago that I really felt I was making progress. I'm now nearly 8 weeks in including 12 days on 30 mg and feel like if anything I've gone backwards in terms of my mood and crazy thoughts. I didn't know whether being off work made a difference but I've been back now 2 days and I'm still very up and down

just thought I'd have a polite rant as I'm very frustrated :0)

im due back at the doctors tomorrow to tell not a great story as he thought  nudging me up to 30 would do the trick ! Feel like going back down to 20 for all the difference it's made.

Hope everyone is having the best day they can

      sorry about the rant. :0)

I'd like to reiterate nicole's question re morning or night. I took my first tablet yesterday (10mg for a week then 20mg thereafter) as soon as I got back from Drs at 5pm. I am wondering whether to take it at 10pm tonight or  take it at 5pm then switch to the morning from tomorrow. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks

      Nige

I have always taken mine in the morning when I get up as my doctor advised me it was a stimulant and I didnt need any nore lack of sleep, I have never had problems with it in the mornings.

Thanks Anne, that makes sense, plus whatever I have is much worse in the morning and by evening I feel pretty much 'normal'

Nige remember it takes a while for your body to adjust so remember how you were already feeling before you started CIT and if its still the same the first few weeks on CIT remember its not side effects its already how the anxiety is making you feel, thats not to say you wont get side effects, but you dont really feel the full benefit from 6 weeks upwards, when I started I blamed CIT for all my horribleness but now that I am back to normal I can see I was like that before the CIT, but it does work, thank God

Hope u can underestand what I mean lol

Thanks Anne, this started in January but looking back I know I've had the feelings for years but they hadn't manifested themselves physically as they did in January . I have work stress induced fatigue but it has affected me badly mentally. I'm trying CBT but am impatient and the Dr said CIT would help...and if it doesn't it's likely  not an anxiety or depression condition.

have u read thru the previous posts on here Nige, you will see what everyone else on CIT has experienced, I myself got it after the death of my Mum so have a look back and see if its how ur feeling, hopefully CIT will help, it saved me I can tell you smile

    hi all,

Loulyn yu need a day fest of eastenders to catch up, I still have 20 episodes of casualty stored that I couldnt watch at the time due to the anxiety, too scared of stuff happening lol but now its just a  case of trying to get time to watch them as no longer got the anxiety watching anything, Late shift eh? hope ur home and tucked up by now, I was day off today and had a lovely day, met my niece for coffee and out to lunch too, so roll on the weekend now, hope the weather is good. take care xxxx smile

Hey Mo, its great you are now so much happier too, so encouraging, inthewoods you will get there too, just persevere and stay strong, we are all here to help you when u need it xxx

    Hi Amy

so glad ur wee boy is doing well, your a good Mum and thats why ur anxious but the anxiety does increase the normal levels for you, but you are defo getting there as thinking positively about it rather then negatively so well done as you will be able to enjoy your boy rather than always be fretting about him. Amy well done on the massive cut back on the caffeine and the cigs, thats amazing and you will feel so much better for it, seems caffeine feeds anxiety, which is why I cut back too, dont get me wrong still miss it, but know I need to do whatever is needed to keep me from going back there....... the dark days... so proud of you cutting back like that. !!!!!

    Loulyn,

let me know how you get on with the mouth guard, as some days I have to think to myself to open my mouth as my jaw is tight, my jaw clicks so may go to the dentists to see if there is anything I can do to stop it, its not painful but just dont like it.

Mike, 18 days is still early for your 30mg increase, dont give up we all are so different, but stay strong you will get there x

    Nicole,

one day is a bit early to notice the side effects but cause you know about this particular side effect the anxiety could be tricking you into thinking this is already happening, most of my "side effects" i now believe were down to my anxiety at the beginning, as I had them before I started CIT too, however its not nice and I didnt feel well so I blamed anything including the cit, but now all is grand, happy days in the lovely words of Loulyn feeling "Sunny"

    Stay strong everyone, x

    Big hugs Anne xxx smile

    Hey Anne,

Yup, tucked up in bed now playing with this damn tablet again rolleyes I blame this tablet for the backlog of TV progs I've got to get around to watching sometime  ..... every single minute of every single series of Downtown Abbey, 46 episodes of Waterloo Road, 19 episodes of River City & 10 Enders to name a few lol.

Your day sounds lovely, it's nice to catch up with friends & family smile

My jaw used to click years ago too but it went away after a couple of years I think it was. I hope the mouth guard works although I'm not exactly looking forward to it but I suppose there are a lot worse things so I'll zip it lol

I'm away to my CBT again tomorrow. Last week she showed me the meridian points & the tapping so we'll see what this week brings neutral

Mike, I really feel for you cry You've put in all the hard graft but don't seem to be reaping the rewards sad. I do hope you find a difference very soon. Chin up pal wink

Wishing you all a peaceful & slumber filled night,

    Love Loulyn x

      Hi Loulyn,

      thanks for for your comments.

im just a little flat just now, I have the docs again soon & that will be 2 wks on 20mgs after the initial start of 2wks on 10mgs.

my work is really stressing me out. & I'm not even there, I decided to take some time out, I even spoke with management. & they seemed fine about it. It wasn't until OH gave there 2pence worth & now I'm not allowed to return until they decide...

      can they do this?

i thought my doc would be the person to decide if I'm fit to work or not, I just want to get back to some sort of structure, maybe not this week or even the next but soon & I'm being deprived of this.

      thx

HI everyone, I'm nearly 2 weeks into my 30mg increase ( was on 10, then 15, then 20 since Jan) Now, I'm feeling quite flat, and fed up a lot of the time. I'm not really depressed or anxious, but I can't get excited about anything really. I wonder if it it's that now I'm feeling more on a level I'm expecting life to suddenly be wonderful, when actually life is the same as before. Or maybe it's just a symptom that will get better over time? X

    Hi Inthewoods4,

That sounds exactly like how I'm feeling right now - I'm on Day 15 of 30mg and like you I'm not really low or anxious at the moment, but not feeling as good as I expected to.  Having had what I would call a couple of 'great' days on 20mg a while back, that's what I'm looking for again and I do worry that I won't feel like that again.  I will keep at it for now and see how it goes, but if I'm still just as 'flat' when I see the doctor again in a couple of weeks I'll tell him and see what he thinks.

    Take care,

    Doug. x
