Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram?

Posted , 526 users are following.

Hi there,

After much deliberation, talking to just about anyone I could find and generally scouring the internet for information, I have decided to go with the Docs advice and take Citalopram, starting today. And then I found this site....

Has anyone NOT had any side effects on this? It is making me feel very worried about taking it. Am I just going to have to sit tight and presume the worst? Are there people who take it and dont feel nauseous and tired or even worse to begin with?

I would really appreciate any comments.

Thanks

M

    Hi all,

I hope everyone's well and looking forward to the long weekend.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I stopped taking Citalopram a couple of days ago. My GP and I agreed they weren't really working as they should after 9 weeks. My anxiety was more or less the same as when I started taking them, and my depersonalisation / derealisation was much worse.

So I'm going to have a break from meds and see how I get on with some alternatives (exercise, meditation, healthy eating - the usual really!).

I doubt I'll be on here as much, so I just want to wish you all good luck - with Cit and with your lives in general. The very best of health and happiness to you all.

    Take good care,

    Spence x

Hi all just a quick update. After 10 weeks on cit including 4 wks on 30mg. I (touchwood) think I may be finally turning a corner. My sleep is a bit better and although I don't feel fantastic I didn't want to. I just wanted to feel ok and now most of the time I do. So that'll do me! I hope everyone else is doing ok. Rick, Anne, Doug, Mike, Loulyn, Amy et al. Don't know if you'll see this Spence but all the best with your recovery.

Hi Anne, thanks so much for asking. I've been doing well thank you- I went to a hotel with my hubby last night which was lovely- only we came home to a seriously difficult tantrum from our daughter which has left me feeling a bit anxious but my husband said he felt really stressed too so I think that maybe it's a normal reaction xx

Yes of course it is, remember you would have normal anxiety if this happened at any time, pity ur lovely night away was put to the back of ur thoughts with the tantrum but remember thats all it is, she will get over it, and you had a lovely time so remember that, positive thinking,

      Hi Anne,

Just logged on after a few days not checking this sitefrown

Am at a yo yoing stage again seem to stuck in this state and its exhausting!! On week 6 now and still am waiting for the ahhhh feeling but it hasn't arrived yet-will it ever I ask myself or should I go back to my GP and ask for the 2nd time to up to 30. A few weeks ago he said it was still too early and gave me diazepan to help too.

Whats your advice/Citalopram journey been like?

Hi charlotte  I am at week 4 and I also had problems with sleeping. My doctor prescribed zopiclone for a few nights and its really helped me get  good nights sleep for the 4 nights i used it and get a break from myself. I have now broken the insomnia mostly and get through the night. I know and understand that some people are worried about adding more drugs, but I can only speak for myself. They gave me the breathing space i needed to stop staring at the ceiling 3 hours a night listening to the other insominacs on talk radio. my citalopram journey has also been eventful and i continue to have muscle aches which bothers me a bit but no where near as bad as when i was getting 4.5 hours sleep. hope relief comes soon for you  Dave xx

    Hey Anne biggrin

    *Group hug back* wink lol

I've been working all weekend so I've just got myself tucked up in bed with the snooker on and the book my CBTcoach has advised me to read " Overcoming Health Anxiety" by Rob Willson & David Veale. I absolutely love my CBT, it's so interesting, I could listen to it all day, well, I would if I could afford to lol rolleyes

I'll think about you working hard tomorrow while I'm relaxing & sipping camomile tea cool

Big HI to everyone else cheesygrin I'll get back to you all later once I get this book read, need to do what I'm told so I get my money's worth ha ha

    Take care folks,

    Love Loulyn x

Hi everyone. I am now coming into my 6th week on Wednesday. 4 of them on 10. And over a week on 20mg. I have been so close to giving up because of the side effects. I have been off work 3 weeks and most days couldn't eat. Sleep. Motivate....

BUT. although I'm still waking up a little anxious and my sleep isn't the best. My mood has lifted so much since Friday. I feel like I'm seeing things clearer and the anxious moments are more manageable. I'm eating well again (please those of you suffering with the lack of appetite, please just eat as the calories are needed and does help with anxious moments - my councillor advised me to eat more and it does work!) I was also prescribed 14 days of nitrazepam to help with the sleep. But I am trying not to get too reliant on them. I don't know what I'd of done without this forum so thanks everyone for your inspiring posts. Can I ask does the affect carry on building after the 6 weeks. Or do you just see the maximum results after 6 weeks. Just curious!

anyway everyone enjoy your bank Holliday Monday and keep busy!

Absolutely Laura, 6 weeks is when a lot of folk first see an improvment, then it continues to bet better, some folk may have the occasional blip for a day but it will clear and then life gets back to normal, so glad ur getting there well done for persevering, we all know how hard it is, every last one of us, so we all are delighted to see you improve xx

    Hi all,

I've spent the whole afternoon reading the book my CBT coach recommended,

"Overcoming Health Anxiety" by Rob Willson & David Veale.

Managed to get it finished too eek It's a lot to take in but if you're going for CBT then it's useful to read it before or at the start as it gives a better understanding of how the mind works & the way it can be trained to change the way we think. My memory is pants now though so I know it will be a case of me forgetting it all until my coach mentions something and I'll be " oh aye, I read that" rolleyes

Amy, the jaw clenching has eased a bit although it's not completely gone, still a bit of strain there but nowhere near as bad as a couple of weeks ago. How's yours doing?

Charlotte, Laura, In the woods, Matilda, Mo, fab to see how well you are all doing, proud of you girls wink

Anne, my cyber friend, I hope you weren't worked too hard this bank holiday & are now sitting with your feet up sipping low volume vino (damn you CIT lol) smile

Chris, Rick, haven't seen you for a while. I hope you are too busy enjoying life! wink

Everyone else, hang on in there, the bumpy road soon evens out wink

    Take good care,

    Love Loulyn x

Hi loulyn- I notice your comment about jaw clenching.  I found a night guard helped in the end with the sore muscles.  Have you spoken with a dentist about it? The night guard separates your upper / lower  teeth to give your jaw a rest. Mine was £55 from the dentist and was a big help. Take care honey x

      Hi Laura,

Yes, thanks honey, I'm seeing her next week for that very thing wink

Great to know it was a success, you've given me hope as it's kicked in again today for some reason & my jaw is getting achey again rolleyes but we're all wee soldiers on here & we'll keep soldiering on til we get there lol

      Take care,

      Love Loulyn x
