Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram?

Posted , 526 users are following.

Hi there,

After much deliberation, talking to just about anyone I could find and generally scouring the internet for information, I have decided to go with the Docs advice and take Citalopram, starting today. And then I found this site....

Has anyone NOT had any side effects on this? It is making me feel very worried about taking it. Am I just going to have to sit tight and presume the worst? Are there people who take it and dont feel nauseous and tired or even worse to begin with?

I would really appreciate any comments.

Thanks

M

    Hi all,

I'm shortly going to head off for my first CBT session, and as the morning has gone on I've got more & more worried about it - I'm actually really nervous about it.  I've also been doing some reading up on it and I'm worried that it might not be the right thing for me, as it tends to focus on the 'here & now' and doesn't really look back into why you are where you are which I think I might need.  I don't know, guess I'll just have to see what happens.  Wish me luck!.

    Hi All

    Just an update really xx

Been to dictors today for repeat prescription, and mentioned i still have the odd few bad days and its like the doctor advised everyone always had the odd low point even if you dont suffer from depression or anxiety!! and i thought yeah thats right!! we are not going to feel 100% all the time because no one does!! xx

I think im on the right track still not fully back to how i used to be but Cit has defo took the edge off, going to see how the next few weeks go, The doc didi say i can go upto 20mg if i need too xx

I do find though keeping busy is the key!! and its easier in the summer with all the gardening and decorating that needs to be done rolleyes

Hi to Anne, Chris, beco, inthewoods, Dougie, Loulyn - Thanks again for all your old and new posts for keeping me positive xx

To all the newbies keep strong and stick with it!! its tough but it does get better biggrin

    Take care xxx Louise

    Hello

Am looking for a bit of reassurance as have hit another LOW point!! have had a REALLY ROUGH DAY again, just when I thought I was turning a corner! Have now been on CIT for 7 weeks & am still not feeling the benifit of it like so many of you say will come. have made an apt to see GP but cant see him till Monday, I just hope I dont feel this distressed and anxy all weekend as its not a nice place to be. What I find disconcerting is that the anxiety episodes come from nowhere and once they start they become all consuming and uncontrolable,.No matter how much breathing or cold water I splash on my face i dont seem to be able to feel calm. Its so so maddening as I have had a few days where i have felt I was getting back on track. It just seems that the good days are well out of reach!

What can I do apart from go to the GP and ask to up meds to 30mg??

Anxiety is distroying the person I once was.

Any ideas or adivce would be VERY WELCOME!!

Charlotte U do maybe need to up to 30mg speak with the doc on Monday or ask for an emergency appointment tomorrow, I did this on numerous occasions when I was really bad with anxiety, couldnt see any other way at the time, but stay strong hopefully u will be better over the weekend, please make sure your doing ur deep breathing, breathing in right down to ur belly for a count of 5 and slowly out of your mouth for a count of 7, sunshine in and darkness out.

      Take care,

      Anne smile

Hi Anne - everyone else 😊 hope everyone's enjoying the sunshine. It's red hot in Leeds!

Had a good few days. No more citalopram for me just trazodone which is an anti depressant / anti anxiety / sleeping pill. Seems to be doing the trick. I got extremely paranoid on citalopram so maybe it just wasn't for me.

Lovely to read everyone's posts as usual. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend and enjoy this lovely weather.

      Hi Charlotte

If you read my previous posts i have experienced the same good days then a spell of bad anxious horrible panic filled days, iv spoke to my doc who says its the norm not to always feel A OK but i feel that sometimes i feel way worse than i still should be feeling xx

I get anxious about felling anxious its such a vicious circle!! and its defo changed me as a person too xx hopefully this bad spell will pass soon for you, then hopefully you will have a good spell and the bad then become few and further between xx

its so hard to try and forget and get over aniety because its that bad!!

i think thats a huge problem for me xx

      Take care

    Hi all 🙋

Apologies if I've been a bit distant lately. I decided to turn off the notifications to my email (apart from private messages 😉) as I was finding the constant reminder of how things were before the cit kicked in, I.e. the anxiety & the side effects mainly, were causing me to feel sort off, well, not down but well, I'm not sure really, but it just kept reminding me that I was like that once & I just want to move on from all that now.

It could be the CBT that's giving me the "move on" feeling ..... I love it so much, it's been great for me and I've only been going 4 weeks but I am so into it. I mean, listen to this ...... I have had a phobia about germs for 40 years, washing my hands every time I touched something I thought would make me ill, bus handrails, putting something in the bin, putting my shoes on, accidentally touching a plant ( I would never touch one deliberately lol) etc, etc. The other day I was at a works meeting, balancing a notebook, pen coffee & a biscuit. The biscuit fell onto the carpet in front of a sofa, right at the place everyone's feet goes. I picked the biscuit up ...... and I ATE IT!! and I'm still alive 😱😆 I could NEVER have done that before CBT. I feel liberated 🙌

To all those new to cit, I was paranoid about taking it in the beginning (10 or so weeks ago I think) but now I just think "get down you wee beauty" before I swallow it lol

Mind you, last night I did get a strange stabbing pain in my head that I'd never had before and it made me catch my breath. I felt the old "panic rising" feeling for a few seconds but it was nothing like before cit where I would have been on the net all night reading scare stories, not getting a wink of sleep then running to the doc in the morning. I don't know if it was caused by the cit or not but, well it made itself the easy option when it decided to bombard us with all these side effects eh 😉

Anne, you had me roaring with laughter at your description of fake saliva! It tastes greatdoes it ??? LOL,LOL,LOL It sounds friggin' disgusting 😤Glad you like it though 😂😂😂

Yup, the weather here has been rather odd, I was drenched in a tidal wave in that thunder & lightening by a stupid Citylink bus on Corstorphine road. I had the bus (driving in the gutter😬) on one side, and a wall on the other side so there was no escape. I was all dolled up & on my way to the pub to meet friends too. I left that driver born out off wedlock let me tell you! 😵 I hope it's a cracking day on the 31st as well as my nephew gets married then so here's hoping for 🌞🌞🌞 Can't believe you've not got those results yet 😕 still, no news is good news petal 😉

To everyone else, keep your pecker up, it seems a drag at times but the good days will be here before you know it 😉

    Take care folks,

    Love Loulyn xxx

Evening All. Hope you are all doing ok, thanks for the mention in despatches Anne. I'm not doing too bad, don't know if you girls find this but I think it may be a certain time for me as I feel more angsty at the mo.

loulyn great to hear from you😊I know exactly what you mean by reading scare stories online and sometimes it's nice to forget anxiety x

Doug hope cbt went well, I am doing guided self help its not going badly, I have to keep a panic diary.

Rick hope you are doing ok if you are still reading this and that you've gone back to 🎸🎸

All the best to everyone else 💐

Hi Matilda (and everyone else!) I haven't been about much but do keep reading the posts. Things aren't bad with me, still sticking to 10mg and still a bit up and down but overall somewhat better. It's great to hear some of us who were about when I started posting are doing well.

I'm playing guitar Matilda, but not back to building yet (it's a motivation thing as in I don't have much but hopefully that'll come!) I'm glad to hear you're doing better and hope you keep improving smile

Amy - I hope all went ok at the dentist, there's nothing wrong with telling him/her how you're feeling and hopefully you'll be treated gently smile

To all the new posters - it can (but isn't always) be tough at the start but things do improve even if you can't seem to believe they will.

Good luck all and take care smile

Hi I'm 22 years old and have been put on cit to treat anxiety and mild depression. I'm only on day 6 and feel absolutely awful sad worse than I did to begin as most people are!

I'm off to america on the 3rd June and I'm so scared that I'm not going to feel better in time ! Or at least my side effects won't go by then! Terrible nausea fatigue and extremely spaced out!

I know I need to give them chance to work I'm on 20mg but feel awful and trying to keep a brave face for everyone . I'm going to work but have had the past 3 days off as I didn't know what was happening to me!! Any advise please to ease my kind slightly!!

    Thanks Kim x

      Hi Kim,

first thing ink you need to do is asses your working situation, if you fel you need some time away from the stress of work just do it, you will feel better not needing to worry about it, on the other hand if work takes your mind off things then stick with it, but you will need to decide soon.

stick with the Cit it will be fine, it's just your body adapting to the mess, you will be fine, everyone starts out roughly on the same path, you kinda get worse 1st on Cit & after a short period you will get to the place you need to be.

my doc has upped my Cit to 40mgs from 20, as I was just going through the motions on the 20mgs & I wasn't seeing any change at all after approx 8 weeks. Perhaps you need a little increase, can you speak with your doc & let them know how you are feeling?

i feel the 40mgs that I now take have kicked in rather quick, but the side effect of the 40 is I feel knackered & exhausted, even when I have done relatively nothing, I may dose off for no a parang reason, but hopefully this will pass!....

      stay strong

      Mike

Hi everyone, I hope everyone is doing good?

Just wondered, does anyone else get periods of butterflies in the tummy and a strange, heavy feeling/ache on the chest? I'm feeling fine in myself, but these physical symptoms are getting on my nerves and distracting me from forgetting about things!

    Xx
