Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram?

Posted , 526 users are following.

Hi there,

After much deliberation, talking to just about anyone I could find and generally scouring the internet for information, I have decided to go with the Docs advice and take Citalopram, starting today. And then I found this site....

Has anyone NOT had any side effects on this? It is making me feel very worried about taking it. Am I just going to have to sit tight and presume the worst? Are there people who take it and dont feel nauseous and tired or even worse to begin with?

I would really appreciate any comments.

Thanks

M

Well done ally, what a productive day you've had. I'm a bit behind you with my meds but you sound like me just wanting it all to get better straight away and I don't think it does sadly. I've been on cit before and it has been a struggle for me this time. Hopefully not too much longer now for us all to see that light again.

hey matilda. yeah I want to better yesterday, waiting is not my thing, neither is being ill. I know ive been through a lot with the move, my health, arranging our sons bounding school ect (trust me theres a lot more I could list) and none of this has helped. I just want to be me again !!

They do say it can take up to 6 weeks for the full benefits of the cit to kick in, keep strong and positive smile

My new mantra is to be kind to myself and stop having too high expectations as I tend to want to help everyone and not put myself first. This illness has made me stop and take stock and realise I want to be well for my kids and husband and for me.

I think i am going to learn how to meditate smile

I do understand what you mean. I was knocked sidewards by how I felt and kept going back to the docs as the side effects were awful and finding this forum kept me going as i was reading how people were coming thru to the other side.

How much are you taking and for how long now? I am 10mg and about day 20 XX

I am on day 28 of 20mg after 10 days on 10mg. In the past I got as high as 40mg. I

Went back to doctor today she said i could increase to 30 if I wanted but I am going to try not to for now. I think we all just want it to be a few months in the future don't we x

couldn't agree more ... a time machine would be great (hi local government worker Matilda by the way lol) . Thanks Nat, it has its moments being a dentist, I think you're the first to say its cool though!

Ally, what a day! and congratulations on doing all that. You must be a golfer then? The Masters should be good next week and maybe we'll all feel better by then.

Nat and Matilda... its weird those of us first time around on this having few initial side effects but the second time they are mean. I need to find some explanation for this. Or maybe we are expecting too much too soon, who knows?

Oh Matilda, Masterchef was boring! thanks for asking though :-)

I think we are expecting too much Rick or maybe we have just blocked out the crappier side effects from last time. Who knows. All I know though to quote Masterchef almost is that citalopram doesn't get tougher than this! (Hopefully!) 😊

    Hi all

Had a catch up with my doc after 5 weeks.

Reckons its only had a partial effect on my depression so upped my

Dose to 30mg. Hope the early side effects don't return :0(

Hi mike keep us posted on the increase to 30mg. I think I will probably end up on it too.

I'm not having a great day today, feel a bit spaced out and I've got a headache. Just been out in the car and was nearly sick. Also Rick I've chipped one of my back teeth eating my cereal this morning!

Hi Mike ... hopefully it'll go smoothly, a lot only seem to get reasonably minor effects on increasing so fingers crossed for you.

Matilda - sorry to hear you're not having a good day. It's so demoralising the improvement then the worsening of symptoms. It seems to be a real peaks and troughs thing .... they will even out though. Hope you feel better as the day goes on smile

Damn, maybe it has detrimental effect talking here on your teeth! I hope it's not too sensitive. One thing, when you go to get it treated, ask your dentist for adrenalin free anaesthetic (we have 2 or 3 that are) as the adrenaline will adversly affect any anxiety. By the way, Masterchef was again crap last night (I'm forced into watching it!), I reckon I could get on there and do a very very impressive scrambled egg. On a positive note, I did have some appetite and managed to demolish a bag of caramel popcorn (nothing like practising what I preach eh?!) which will hopefully help me gain a bit of the weight I've lost due to the Citalopram.

Today is ok for me. I woke shaking a bit as usual which is just plain weird but felt pretty calm for a couple of hours then had a weak spell again. Frustrating ... very very frustrating. Hopefully today will be ok but I can't bring myself to say I feel better as usually it gets worse again. Maybe though ... a bit better!

Anyone listen to music to make themselves feel better/more positive? There are a couple of songs that make me feel stronger (for want of a better word) .... "Good Feelin" by Flo Rida and "Heroes" by Bowie. Sounds stupid maybe and not to everyones tastes I'm sure but anything that helps is a good thing in my book.

Take care all and I hope Saturday is kind to you smile

Hey guys, Just started in citalopram today after getting prescribed yesterday. Within half an hour of first dose started feeling dizzy and a little nauseous so laid down for a few minutes and feel more or less OK now. Not sure if those side effects are to do with the pill itself or because I decided to read through the side effects again after taking, I knew the more common ones but not the lesser ones and for context, I used to be a major hypochondriac as a teen where my mind used to be able to trick my body into creating symptoms I didn't actually have so that could possibly be what caused today's momentary sickness. Guess we'll just have to wait and see over the next few weeks.

Saw Doctor 3 days ago for depression after the worst year of my life. Been on citolapram 20mg now for those 3 days. Feel anxious and on edge, loss of appetite, dry mouth and very tired. Get up in the morning and within an hour im lying on the settee. These side effects are probably partly due to the depression anyway and not all the side effects of the tablet although i do feel far more anxious and on edge than i did before i started them. Just so desperate to feel normal again. This is the worst feeling in the world and never realised depression could be so bad. I have counselling in 2 weeks but not sure if that will help at all. I keep telling myself that tomorrow i will wake up happy and do some exercise and bounce back but its always the same. i just lie around in the depths of despair. I hope these tablets work soon!!!!

Thanks rick. Fingers crossed it goes smoothly too. Hope your day goes well it sounds promising :0)

Hi Matilda. I will keep everyone posted thanks for showing interest. I also feel very low today after an

Encouraging few days. It's like my emotions can't cope with seeing my partner who I only see at weekends

I usually come round by Sunday pm when we don't have much time left in the weekend

    Frustrating !!

Apologies for coming on here just for a moan (I know the encouraging posts are much more uplifting wink )

I'm at the tail end of week 4 on 10 mg & have some quite good days this week with the anxiety lifting a good bit. This morning I feel hellish sad I woke in a sweat for the first time, I know a lot of you have experienced this, & it's happened again twice since. My head is pounding, not helped by the fact I also have an inflamed nerve in my left temple.

I've to see the doc on Monday about increasing to 20 mg but I'm sure he will stall it a bit as it's also the day I go back to work after being off 10 weeks after an operation.

The way I feel today has put me right off increasing confused

I just needed to get this off my chest, thanks guys for listening to this old moaner wink
