Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram?

Posted , 526 users are following.

Hi there,

After much deliberation, talking to just about anyone I could find and generally scouring the internet for information, I have decided to go with the Docs advice and take Citalopram, starting today. And then I found this site....

Has anyone NOT had any side effects on this? It is making me feel very worried about taking it. Am I just going to have to sit tight and presume the worst? Are there people who take it and dont feel nauseous and tired or even worse to begin with?

I would really appreciate any comments.

Thanks

M

    Hi Paul,

Very glad to hear u are managing with the 5mg, I was so scared to take cit to start with I had it for a month before I would take it, then I took 10 mg thinking it was the lowest dose I could take, so I am now on day 26 and feeling so much better, still not 100% but maybe 85% so I am glad I made the decision to go with it, I wont be increasing to 20mg I hope, but yes this site has really helped me, knowing your not the only one, so without it I doubt I would have made it to day 26. everyone has been great, so do keep in touch, and be strong.

    Take care,

We are all the same and part of this anxiety/depression cycle is the human basic need to be reassured that it will be alright and we are not alone there is always somebody else who can relate to what is going on with us and it is helpful for recovery to share. At the time when i was at my worst (pre on line forums) my friends must have been sick listening to me harping on but be assured the day will come and you will feel 'normal'

My regret is being on propranalol for as many years. If i had know at the time i don't know that i would have taken it.

    Hi Mag,

Thanks for the support and you are so right, we all do need support of others, thanks for reassurance that we will feel normal again, as that's the biggest worry !!!

Not heard of propranalol ? has it helped you?

I was given propranolol at first

    Didn't work for me

    I desperately hoped it would...but it didn't

    Hi Gillian,

I hadn't heard of Propranolol but I suppose I am relatively new to this, I agree with your therapy with meditation and switch off techniques, I have just finished the first course in Reiki so I am hoping it will help me heal etc,

But I swear, I feel like laying down on the sofa e feel this dizziness go away. I also feel like spacey? how do I say in english? it affects my brain it feels heavy.

    Hi Lillian

Please try and calm yourself keep saying over to yourself it will be alright i will be fine and slow down your breathing it will help.

Also remember your are still at the very early stages of the treatment and far too early to expect the medication to have taken effect. It will not be fully effective for 3-5 weeks so hang in there and be rest assured you will feel better than you do at this moment in time. We have all been there and felt exactly the same.

    You will survive!!

    Hi Lillian,

Mag is right we have all been there so hang in, we all did and now things are so much better but it does take time, you brain been heavy is not due to the Cit but to the anxiety, and this will fade in time, it took me 3 weeks but after putting up with it for months I persevered and decided that 3 weeks was acceptable, with all the support on here I knew I would improve after a time.

I am on day 29 now and feel so much better, and deep breathing at the bad times really helped me get there, so hang in it will get better, I take the cit in the mornings and this has helped me sleep at night. Also share with close friends or family or do you have any support at work?

    Take care,

    Anne

    Hi Lillian,

You will get there as I was just like you at the start, and going on here just kept me going knowing it would get better, as it couldn't get worse, so glad I stuck to it now, as I was terrified to take it in the first place, held off for ages. but it was a day at a time for about 2 weeks for me. so considering how bad its been it will get better and u are already almost a week in. so stay strong x

Its good ur boss knows and supports you, glad ur b/f is there for you too u need him, some of ur friends just wont understand until they have experienced it themselves. They just think ur been fussy, and its soooo much more. the pain and suffering is so bad, but it gets better believe me.

so all the best and take care and keep in touch,

    Hi,

I've been on Citalopram for 16 days now, feeling pretty awful,

panicky, diarrhoea, a big know of nerves around my stomach, lost about 10lb in 3 weeks.

Will I ever get rid of the side effects and feel the benefits?
