Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram?

Posted , 526 users are following.

Hi there,

After much deliberation, talking to just about anyone I could find and generally scouring the internet for information, I have decided to go with the Docs advice and take Citalopram, starting today. And then I found this site....

Has anyone NOT had any side effects on this? It is making me feel very worried about taking it. Am I just going to have to sit tight and presume the worst? Are there people who take it and dont feel nauseous and tired or even worse to begin with?

I would really appreciate any comments.

Thanks

M

I talked to the nurse and she said to just stay with the 1/2 pill (10 mg) as I feel some improvement and if I'm getting no sleep now, she's prefer I not amp it up even more. She also suggested I move to night time dosage (which may be smart as I DO feel a bit tired in the morning once I take my pill and that may help me sneak in a few hours sleep. Even if I still get amped up later on in the day, I actually have things I can do to occupy my mind much easier than at night)

She said if I'm still having issues to call back and see the doctor again about my dosage or if I need to add something to help me sleep.

Part of the issue today, I think, is I have an uncle going in for Mesothelioma surgery that's very risky. I have nothing but good thoughts and prayers, but being already open to anxiety, I'm sure that's on my mind. I also have a cousin who has some kind of cancer in her that she's taking care of on the 23rd (MUCH safer procedure, but still scary). I believe these are the issues that really pushed me off the ledge to having an actual problem (it was there, but eventually couldn't handle it all).

Anyway, I'm rambling. I do that. smile Thank you all for support.

    Hi Joe,

I had this, I thought I had a lump in my throat as it felt like every time I swallowed something was stuck and sore for ages and my tongue was sore too, this has now just disappeared, probably down to the cit, but completely gone , I thought I had allsorts going on in my neck, part of the anxiety I suppose.so glad it stopped.

Take care and stay strong, I have increased to 20mg today so fingers crossed side effects wont be too bad???

The other thing is I quit smoking a couple weeks ago. I actually quit well last year, but around Feb. picked it up again (never been a heavy smoker, but it's still no good for you). Been an off and on smoker for years. I finally got to where it didn't feel like it was helping at all. I DID have 1 and 1/2 the first day of my anxiety attacks as I didn't know what else to do and it did calm me a little but since then (two weeks completely free!) haven't touched one. Wanted to a few times, but have stayed strong

Agreed! Well done joe. It's tough enough quitting the cigs without dealing with starting on a new medication! :-)

    Hi

Good to near everyone's news - well done Anne and Diane for the courage to start on 20mg. Good luck!

Mrs VN and Joe - be encouraged - it will work out!

So pleased to hear Grace's news - a real success story! Best wishes, Grace.

Not sure where I'm going next - doctor wasn't pleased about how long away my RA appointment is and has sent off a stroppy email, so we wait and see what happens. But the pain/illness makes me feel low at times, so we will monitor and possibly increase cit to 30mg. Have some extra painkillers now.

    best wishes everyone

    Hi Chris,

Hopefully the doc will get things moving for you on the RA and hopefully the extra pain killers will help especially so u can relax and get some relief and reduce the low mood, that would be really good.

Yes great news about Grace as she had a hard time, but is there now. So happy to hear that !!!

Yes 20mg from today, so fingers crossed, nothing as yet? so holding out. lol don't want to be a nightmare over Christmas as going to be with the family in Ireland. So as per normal its a day at a time.

Take care all, keep in touch.

    Hi everyone

I'm on day 4 of my new drug regime - 30mg cipramil and 50mg molipaxin. Have slept for at least 7 hours at night, which I haven't done in months. My husband says its great to hear me snore. I don't hear a thing at night. I feel the drugs are zonking me for the day. Still feel very shakey. My mum thought I hadn't slept at all I look so tired looking. My family are really worried about me.

My councellor said I was very spaced out yesterday. He says he'll do CBT with me, but at the moment he doesn't think it's right for me yet.

Unfortunately my uncle died yesterday which is another blow for the family. I'm in ireland, so will provably have to go to the funeral in England.

It's going to be a tough christmas. I'm back at the gp on Monday, so I'll see how that goes.

    Keep in touch

    Hi Beco

Well you're certainly making progress - great to hear. It's hard enough in life when these things happen, and even harder before Christmas and you feeling under the weather.

However, you will get through it - you're obviously getting stronger. Well done.

    Chris
