Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram?

Hi there,
After much deliberation, talking to just about anyone I could find and generally scouring the internet for information, I have decided to go with the Docs advice and take Citalopram, starting today. And then I found this site....
Has anyone NOT had any side effects on this? It is making me feel very worried about taking it. Am I just going to have to sit tight and presume the worst? Are there people who take it and dont feel nauseous and tired or even worse to begin with?
I would really appreciate any comments.
Thanks
M

Good to hear from you, I have had a rally painful shoulder and barely able to type, for the last few days, at the doc this morning she thinks I have an inflamed shoulder, so more meds
My tinnitus is just the same, but I can deal with it, probably due to the Citalopram that I am able to ignore it. LOL is your pain any better, I have been taken off the Gabapentin due to been on Cit
as they dont work well together, only found this out this morning, so my pain will get a bit worse, but will get thru it with co-codomol and naproxen, Finished my CTB but wont know if it works for a while, as need to stay on cit for at least another 6 months.
Let me know how it goes when u see the doc.
Hope everyone else is sticking in there and doing well, take care and be strong !!

That's good to hear! I'm sure it will work out - keep going!
Hey Anne
Good to hear from you though sorry you have a painful shoulder. Is there nothing else you can have for the pain in lieu of gabapentin? But hopefully you'll be able to escape from cit as you say then can use gabapentin again?
take care

Hope everyone's doing okay?
Jules, I'm reading 'mindfulness: Practical guide to finding peace in a frantic world' I think it's by some of the same authors. I'm on week 6. It's really helped me, especially since I've started back at work. Hope it helps you too. :-)
Glad to hear you're feeling positive Diane!
Christine. I'd misunderstood your post, had thought the new med was an added extra, didn't realise you'd have to lower your dose of citalopram. What did you decide to do? I'm a bit like you, I'm really indecisive, and worry for ages that I've made the wrong choice, I guess it's part and parcel of being anxious! I guess either way it's a bit of a gamble but you won't know until you try. Let us know how you get on
Love to everyone

I hate being so indecisive, it has taken me a week to decide and that was only because my other half said to me this morning that if I don't do anything I will just have to stay as I am, very true, well I decided to stick with the citalopram for now, I took an extra 5mg this morning, don't want to go too mad
I thought well if it doesn't work with the increased dose then I will have to try something else but while I have got this far on citalopram I may as well go the whole hog, I will stay on 25mg for a few days and then go up to 30mg.
I hope you are still doing well and everyone else is getting better as well. xx

Prior to citalopram I was on mirtazapine for 3 months but it started make me think suicidal, so saw the local Crisis team and was moved on to Citalopram. the downside though is the increased anxiety, painful lymph nodes in the neck, and the nausea. sadly its aggravating my chest pain too. :0( thanks to 2 nice ladies I convinced for now it worth fighting thru a little longer.
This morning I struggle to get to library just to get some company information to start send speculative letter to new employees. The anxiety just got m and the sickness. I hope the coming weeks improve

Can anyone reassure that things will improve as I'm starting to feel really down now as I thought there would be some improvement by now as it has been 8 weeks.

Welcome to the forum. So sorry you have been having such a bad time. The good news is that you are on the road to recovery though it may not seem like it at the moment. At two weeks in you are experiencing the worst bit of Cit which can make things worse before they get better. The side effects should start settling down but it may take another week or so before you start seeing the benefits. Don't give up! It will work.
Hi Joanne
Welcome to you also. When my dose of Cit was increased I had another round of side effects although not as bad, and I think you are probably reacting to upping the dose. There have been a number of people on this thread who have been like you and found it takes a while to feel the benefits, but they got there. So stay positive - you're well on the way.

Welcome my friend, You are doing well, the side effects at the start can be so annoying, Keep with it tho, I'm on week 5 of 20mg of cit and over the last 2 weeks feel dramatically better, read back on our previous posts, every single one of us has experienced the exact same as yourself, this tablet does take time to be effective but when it does it will be amazing, take one day at a time, day by day it gets better, cit has saved me and I guarantee it will u too , be strong x
Joanne,
Again welcome to this site, if you read all the posts you will be so reassured of everything, increasing step by step can repeat side effects however, once u reach the correct balance then it will be amazing for you. Remember the cit retrains the chemical balance in your body, your body initially reacts with side effects because it's foreign to your system but soon it will all settle down. I'm at the end of week five on 20mg, side effects have passed and in reflection feel great xx stay with it sweet, you will be amazed at the effects xxx
Everyone, even tho I feel so much better now, I desperately want to let you know that I clung to the site and this site saved me, so many people pulled me thru and if I can say anything to help others I will xxx
Sending rainbows of inspiration to every single one of you xxxxxx

My life was really good, years ago I suffered really bad panic attacks and was on cit, I was a mess to be honest, anxious about absolutely everything and thought why me? , I was on cit then, I came off it and for years was fine, I have been thru a lot of stress over the last few years but over the last 4 years I have been the happiest and bang! The anxiety and panic appeared from no where, I went to my GP after a while and I requested cit again because I know they work! ........ During the first few weeks and being on a steady does does prose the question "will I ever be me again", YES YES YES is the answer, if u have a headache a simple pain killer can illuminate this within 20 mins or so however cit needs to retrain your chemical side of things, which takes what seems forever but it will work, trust me it does, the hardest thing is being patient, ..... It's not anything you done wrong it's just one of those things that happen but trust me sweet give them time and try and keep busy, don't beat yourself up, you are stronger than u think!

After having a really good weekend I felt so rubbish on Monday, for no apparent reason, I woke up feeling shocking. I had an appointment at the docs anyway to see how I was getting on with the Cit. Id been feeling panicky after reading that I shouldnt be taking Cit with Modafinil, another medication im prescribed as it can cause increased QT interval, Id convinced myself it was just part of my anxiety but that I should mention it to feel reassured. So I mentioned it and she looked it up and said Oh an alert didnt come up before but it has now.
Basically I had to have an ECG there and she phone the hospital to check with a cardiologist. ECG was fine but she said I had to stop taking it. I didnt hide my frustrations, Id taken a week off work to start on Cit because I seem to be so sensitive to medication, I cant just do that again because she wants me to switch to Sertraline. And more prescription costs. It took a lot for me to start on meds and I just feel like giving up and trying to see if I can just be ok with out medication. Which is a step back and I know this I just cant handle those first few days again. I dont think she fully understands the side effects and what feeling sick all day actually feels like :-( And Im annoyed that I even mentioned it to her and annoyed that she prescribed me something that Ive had to tell her is potentially dangerous, I shouldn't have to research my own medication. Sorry for the negativity, just feeling a bit crap about it all.
Ive considered just continuing on Cit because I have quite a lot left and then trying to convince her at my next appointment that my heart isnt affected, but then I know every time I get palpitations Il feel more anxious. I feel so indecisive about everyhing,

I also suffer with health anxiety as well as general anxiety, can anyone relate to that?

Drove to hospital this afternoon, got cardiac monitor fitted and went round some shops after. Betting everything behaves...... Feeling pretty good here. Felt really energised after my acupuncture on Monday. Had needles in my legs, feet, elbows, forehead, hands and back of neck. Don't know if I'm on the up generally, if the cit is working at last, the acupuncture is doing the business or a mixture of the lot. And I don't actually care as long as it sticks and continues to get better.
Positive vibes to all of you.
