Anyone not had erection problems being on citalopram?

Had severe panic attacks for a few weeks which led to the return of my erectile dysfunction returning after several years being ok.

My doctor prescribed 10mg citalopram to calm the anxiety which I took for 7 days. Last tablet was 3 weeks ago.

Still got some anxiety but getting under control. Erectile dysfunction still there too.

Doubt this is to do with the citalopram though as I wasn't taking it long enough.

Doctor says it's nothing to do with the citalopram as it was there before. I just need to manage the anxiety and things will return.

Anybody got any thoughts?

Your doctor it's talking rubbish.  I was sex mad before I took Citalopram. Two days in, no moring wood, no desire to have sex, no erections.  Admittedly the morning glory has returned after 6 weeks but sex feels unsatisfying and it takes ages to ejaculate, and doesn't feel the same when I do.  It was this alone that nearly made me stop the Citalopram but I kept going with it as it did what it said.  My panic attacks stopped and anxiety too.  So I guess it's a bit of a trade off.

Are you still taking the citalopram then? What strength are you on?

I stopped taking it 3 weeks ago after only taking it for 7 days on the 10mg.

My erectile dysfunction returned before I started taking it and I've read it can take anywhere between 4 weeks and 3 months for your body to readjust after stopping taking citalopram. I can manage some form of erection now so seems to be on the mend as anxiety getting better.

Maybe I just need to give myself more time off it?

I was on Citalopram years ago and tapered off (2005). Back on them now since August. I have only ever been on 10mg. I refuse to go higher.

Did your sexual function recover when you came off citalopram on 2005?

Concerned I've got long term damage although think it's unlikely considering I had the problem before I started taking it and I was only on it for 7 days.

      Brilliant. Thanks for your comments.

Just what I thought. Didn't think it would be permanent damage especially as I only took it for 7 days. 3 weeks probably too soon so just need to be patient with it.

If you don't mind my asking John, how old are you and are you taking any other meds like blood pressure medication? I took Citalopram 10mg for a year, had no erectile or orgasm issues, but obviously we're all different. Usually antidepressants in men can cause ejaculatory issues, but I've not heard of erectile issues.

I'm 40 and taking no other medication. Just had a full check up too including bloods and everything normal.

Think the erectile dysfunction is purely down to stress as it was there before I took the citalopram. Probably just stressing over nothing but thought it would have sorted itself out by now. Probably just need more time though.
