Anyone on Zoloft for a long time, like 20 years plus?

On and off z for 20 yrs. recently had a rather noticeable relapse, was on 25mg when I had relapse about 2 weeks ago, on my 5th day of 100mg. Last major attack was in 2013.  Can I hear from your experience if you'd been on z for a long time? Very disappointed in myself with this relapse, can't imagine going thru these attacks for the rest of my life, in early 40s. Thanks.

Godservant, I can relate to so much of what you are saying. I have been on Zoloft aince I was 16 yars old. So last year, when I turned 26 and realized I had been on it for 10 years (100mg), I freaked out and attempted to come off of these meds. I am on it for depression and mild OCD. I have managed to be on 50mg for a few months, and hope to stay on the lowest dose as possible.

I too worry about being on this powerful drug for the rest of my life and the potential effects it can have on my body, especially my brain. I'm finding out that I need to change my lifestyle to the healthiest I can possibly be. I have dramatically changed my eating habits, and have researched different supplements to take everyday for brain and nerve health. I'm trying out sobriety for the first time in my adult life. I've also began to exercise at least 4 times a week; hoping to get to seven days a week. I guess all we can do is live one day at a time. I saw that you are hesitant about therapy. Trust me, it is essential. I have been in CBT off and on, especially in my teens and early adult years. Now I am in EMDR therapy, for PTSD that was developed a few years ago. Therapy helps a lot. Especially learning different ways to think about your life. I find myself using techniques I have learned on a daily basis.

Even at my age, I too feel worn out by depression and anxiety. I often become depressed thinking about the rest of my life, and the struggle I'll face to just exist. But, I am thankful to live in a day and age where these drugs are available to help ease the burden of these diseases. I'm finding out that having strong faith can make a different in the way we percieve life and positive thinking is a must. I just pray that we all get relief from these demons.

    Hello

I'm new on here..yes I've been on them about 5 years and I'm going through a dip in mood,I'm on 50mg also HRT and Levothyroxine..It is so frustrating when you're doing well the bang, you wake up feeling back at square one, it isn't you, it's this horrible illness that we carry around with us.

Hi Lesley, like you said, you’re just going thru a dip, so you will get better. Just give it time and try not to be HALTS (Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired, Sleepy or Stressed). Get plenty of rest. Yes, it may seem like you’re back to square one but it really isn’t. I’ve noticed over my 2 decades that often my recovery process has gotten faster with each successive attack, all else being equal. Also, it tends to be worse around your monthly lady’s holiday. Stay strong, you’ve gotten better before and you will again, but be gently with yourself. XX
