I am having revision surgery tomorrow. I will have a concrete antibiotic placed in knee area to fight infection IT will get there for 3 months, at which time we will go back to step one and get a new knee replacement. This whole process is a nightmare.

Are you not taking antibiotics via a PICC line. I had to have 8 weeks/2 x's a day. They should do a new blood study before the second surgery.......good luck.....its sure no picnic.

hello debbie - they go in and take out your hardware that is in there and remove any damaged tissure and some people have to have donor bone put in it the tibia or fibia is damaged, then they put new implant in but this time they use rods in tibia and fibia to ancore implant in place and use cement too.

Revisions are done for a lot of reasons. Misalignment, wearing out or as mine did, broke loose and was moving inside The bone.....hitting a nerve every time it moved. Ask 4th our Dr what the problem is that requires the revision. The X ray should give all the information for the diagnosis. Its pretty much like going through the original surgery except this time you have a mental road map to follow

Hi April. I had a revision 10months ago. The original TKR  was badly done so the o was revised to try to correct this.
