Hi buster, ive had a vaginal hysterecromy and recytocele and cytocele repair as well as other bits but not all the same time. The hysterectomy was done march 2015 and the others 6 weeks ago. Any questions you have ill try my best to help but there are lots of ladies on here with fab advice too.

brie can I ask why the hysterectomy was performed and not the repairs? Did your consultant think it would be too much at once? I'm only asking because it's something we are looking at in our NHS Trust xx

Hi matron, as far as i knew all was being done at the same time but when my surgeon came around after she said the prolapses werent as bad as first thought so she didnt need to do them.

In march this year i was at the gym when all of a sudden excruciating pain hit and when i went to the toilet i had to push whatever it was back up. I went straight to the doctors and she referred me again. This time it was a different consultant but she said i needed both repairs plus sacroscopinous fixation (i think thats it) and ny perineum reconstructed.

I do wish it was all done at the same time but nevermind im on the mend now x

Thanks for replying brie. What a horrendous experience though and one that could have been prevented. It's bad enough going through one surgical procedure xx

I know, the hysterectomy was supposed to be the end of all my woes because it was all being done at once! Im only 38 as well so hoping this op has worked and come feb i can get back to work and enjoy life again. So far so good though. 6 weeks in and no problems whatsoever

It's good to hear you are recovering well. Take care xx

Thanks phyl, i was pretty worried in the beginning because unfortunately you only hear from others if something has gone wrong. Yes i did have a lot of pain to start and yes sometimes i think i can run before i can walk, then suffer the rest of the day but its no way near as bad as i expected it to be. Signed off work till feb so practically a lady of leisure 😄 xx

That's great that you are signed off till Feb...

You sound like you are being very sensible and coping well.

I still tend to overdo things when everything gas been going well - lulled into a sense of well being and think I'm superwomen again - I'm then forced to rest again.

But I do think that although progress has slowed up I am moving in right direction.

Keep resting when you can and stick to light things and keep the walks short.

Hi. Did you have a uterus prolapse and do you know the stage mine is stage is 3. Bladder prolapse is a two. What was yours?

Did you go to a urogyno or gym doc for both surgeries

Was the hysterectomy or the repair surgery more painful?

Hi I had a vaginal hysterectomy plus opherectomy (spelt wrong sorry) and also an A&P repair and tvt all together last April'16. It's been tough at times but on the whole I healed really well. My problems started when I returned to work and developed a pain (sept) and I still get it if I do certain roles of my job which is causing lots of issues with my boss and me. But we are trying to work it out and I'm under consultant again. He treated me for an inflammation of the muscles around and over the pubic bone butbit disnt really do much so back to see him on 13th this month.

Hi 4fi45. What kind of symptoms did you have before surgery. And did they do all repairs together?

      Buster

Sorry you are still having problems Fi but it's good that work are trying to help. I can imagine it's quite uncomfortable (the inflammation) are you taking any medication to help? You did a good job spelling oopherectomy, you just missed an o at the beginning. It's not easy to spell 😘

I went to GP as I had a heavy bulge in vag area. Painful sex and terrible bowel problems. Leakage on coughing sneezing etc. I also suffered from endometriosis so consultant suggested that when he did the repairs to give me hysterectomy also and then had tests done to measure my leakage and then added the tvt to the lit. Yes I had all things done in one go which I am so pleased about as then I got it over and done with all in one go.

No have no leakage and no painful bulges or sex. Bowels still an issue but not as bad as they were but I'm still seeing a colerectal surgeon for that. Back on 17th for that but can't have any surgery until my sickness record for work is clear again to avoid losing pay.

Haha thought the spelling didn't look right. Work haven't been great. I've had to have Occupational health involved and also advice from union. They were trying to force my hand to go back sick but I was fit for work just not all my duties. But getting there now but been very very stressful.

Consultant put me on 2 weeks of antibiotics and 4 weeks of naproxen but it didn't really make any difference. The pain only gets worse on certain movements like bending forward. Housework aggravates it. Wrapping presents on floor did and at work changing children's nappies really aggravates it. So because it's not constant it's hard to work out what/where it is. It's been so frustrating. This has been harder than after the op to be honest.

So glad you're back matron. X

Sorry Fi I misread your post about work. Honestly this is major surgery and it makes me so cross when I read something like this. What angers me even more is that these Occupational Health Nurses side with the employers in some cases. Recovery is very frustrating so I know exactly what you mean. Please try and look after yourself xx

You're right about OH. She agreed that I didn't warrant being on sick but said if head can't accommodate you then she can meme me go sick. I go back tomorrow and feel nervous about about us expected of me again. She knows I'm back at hospital on 13th but her though is that I've been back 3 months now so I should be fit enough to fulfil all duties now. But I'll soon find out.

      Watch this space. X

You shouldn't be returning to work until you've seen your consultant. Tell her that Fi. X

Oh I've only been off for the Christmas holidays. I went back in sept. She wants me on sick but I can't afford to be on sick any more and I feel I'm fit enough. Only thing I haven't been doing is changing kids. I'm fulfilling everything else. I want to try a few changes to see if it still aggravates it so I can report back to consultant when I see him.

I haven't been able to get back to my cycling which has been a killer for me so this yr I really want to aim towards getting back on the bike and being a bit fitter. But one step at a time. 😊 X

I forgot you went back to work, I'm still catching up. You know your own body and just how you feel so if you want to be at work then she has to respect that. Take things slowly, you'll get there x

      Hi Fi-45,

So frustrating having to fight for light duties and difficult to negotiate with OH and management.

At 10 months post op I am still struggling with some heavier aspects of work and feel at times that I'm just a nuisance that they have to work around when I should be fulfilling the needs of the business.

Looking back I feel that I went back too soon and because I didn't get help from OH I had to negotiate light duties direct with management and as usual needs of business on occasion came first resulting in being left rushing about on my feet too long on more than one occasion so now have to content with painful nippy scar tissue which has put me back a good bit.

Did not have this problem last time but took 8/9 months out last time and wounds including deep tissue was well healed was doing 4 shifts a week when I started back some of them longer hours without problems despite having slightly repro lapsed. So definitely more important that you take enough time out to heal properly including the deep tissues as I am only coping with 2 short shifts this time despite repairs themselves being fine.

Hoping that the scar tissue will eventually settle down but I know from past that I had scar tissue with appendix op with drain from abscess was nippy for years after especially when pregnant. It is so muchore painful around vag... opening where back and front walls are and of course that is where it stretches when dashing around on my feet. It makes me feel sick and eventually I get an achy feeling deep in the lower pelvic floor.

Anyway hoping it all settles down soon as it is really restricting how much I can do.

Hope you get something sorted soon, I am managing to get a seat at checkout now for ally shifts but the damage gas been done after such a good start. We really should have protection from abuse from employers who seem to have all power to do what they like.

Take care it's your long term health you need to protect and your repairs. Not worth taking a chance.

      Phyl x💖

You're so right about being put under pressure from management. They wanted me to go back on sick but I didn't feel my condition warranted it. I just wanted a slight alteration to my duties. I feel because I have fought my right to stay at work I have probably made myself look like a trouble maker but I felt so strongly about it and is woman have enough to contend with with being bullied into things we don't want to do. I am careful when at work and some colleague whom I work closely with in class are very supportive and are willing to take up the slack that I'm not fulfilling. Time is a great healer in all aspects.

I hope you manage to heal better Phly. Take care. Xx
