Anyone slowed down in recovery by psoas problems

Posted , 10 users are following.

hi,

im 6 weeks post op and recovery is being slowed by psoas issues which causes groin pain and back pain after small amount of walking. (Had a half day of pottering around the house without stick and am now on sofa in agony and back to strongest painkillers)

physio says it will have to be slow going for me.

anyone had a similar challenge?

Hi LDW, I feel that the back pain is just your back muscles getting used again more effeciently than before, when you were struck down with OA, as we all were here, groin pain...I am still getting some after standing at work for 90mins + and need to rest, sit down for a spell whenever I can, I use 50mg Trammies sparingly, but I do still use them, I am 55 now, and was and still am fit and almost normal...just take it easier...and take each day as it goes...more or less every other day...and rest too six weeks is very early and you must still be tender all over, I know I was, been there twice ....It is a slow process, and I always stree the meat...high protien diet..Oxtail residue in stews....chopped up steak, it is working for me, yes it is pricey and I can do it, and I do continue to cook like that even if I do put on a little weight it soon goes once I ease off the meat....

Keep in touch and Happy Easter!!  Ian.

      really helpful reply Ian.

its good to be reminded that its still early days ....

yes, i think you could be right about the back pain. my body is certainly wanting to move in ways that it hasnt done in ages.

plus, i had quite a tiled pelvis after the op (about 1 and hlf inches), which is donw to about half an inch now. so i guess that must be upsetting the soft tissues in the back area.

      good advice about the diet.

for the first month i was craving red meat... i am now on two portions of fish a day 9 gone off the red for a bit!!)

      how long since your ops.

glad to hear you are doing well.

Hi It has been seven months now, and I have good days and bad days and the bad days and odd moments of pain are bearable, just have to rest, take a break, get a sleep....as I am now I am working at 9pm and now going to lie down for an hour, setting the alarm is important however, never forget that....cool

    Oh yes

I'm 6 weeks post op on Monday and I was doing really well. Now all of a sudden I have leg and groin pain and I'm back on pain killers. I was totally pain and pain killer free. I don't know what I have done. I'm so gutted x

Back to sticks with you .... Take the time it takes, as the old cowboy saying goes

I got it when I tried to do the hip abduction exercise, must of pulled it, because my leg just would not move for it.  Had a couple of days and it settled, then I could do the exercise.  I do sometimes get it back if I overdo things, so go back to resting it.

Hope it sorts it's self out, all takes time.

    hi lindsey,

Ian is right - 6 weeks is still early - by this time you probably do more walking, with or without sticks, maybe rest less ... Before you know it, you overdid it -

nothing wrong about that - sometimes we have to challenge ourself a little to know where we are -

Did you have your follow up appointment yet?

take care and be kind to yourself -

    big warm hug

Good morning. What is PSOAS? I am only Day 7 so I won't be able to assist rolleyesother than with support but I am sure our other hippie friends will. I hope you have a more comfortable day! - Love from Cindy

It's a big muscle - actually two muscles,

Psoas Major - from the spine down to the fibia (upper leg bone) just below the femoral head (the ball of the ball-and-socket hip joint)

Psoas Minor - from the spine down to the pelvic region I think.

Difficult to see them on Wikipedia, and like most of us on here I am not medically trained, so not totally sure.  Anyone with medical knowledge care to correct me please?

They get stretched and strained when your hip is dislocated which is why we have pains there after the operation.
