Anyone stop using sertraline after feeling better?

Looking for anyone that was on sertraline and come off it after they was better without any problems. I’m just wondering if this is something I’ll be stuck taking the rest of my life. I don’t wanna be on it long term and just looking for reassurance that I can come off of it when ready

Wow you sound a lot like me, I waited forever to even take this stuff. I will tell you this I had to change my train of thought and think that if it is something I have to be stuck on forever as long as it's working and keeping me happier and more even then it's worth it. Kind of like a diabetes medicine

I’m hoping I don’t need it long term. I was put on this medicine only because my birth control caused me to have anxiety and insomnia and it didn’t get better on its own. I fought taking anything as well. I’ve never taken anything in my life and I’m 45. It sucks. I will say that it has helped but I don’t want to be on this forever if I can help it. Thank you so much for your reply.

Just make sure to do some research about tapering off.  Most doctors think we can taper faster than our brains can actually handle.  It really needs to be a slow process and don't get in a hurry with it.  You have to let your brain get used to not having the drug anymore.  Not everyone has a difficult time with it.  Just wanted you to be prepared that sometimes you may feel worse before you feel better.  Hope it goes well for you.  Glad you are feeling better

Thank you for your reply. I’ve been on sertraline since July 10th and I finally hit the aha day the end of September. I felt better from the start but everything like disappeared the end of September. But I told my doctor in the beginning that I only wanted to be on this for 6 months and she agreed so I’m shooting for January to start my taper. I’m just hoping I don’t ever have to go back to this once off it. I hear too many experiences on here about how the side effects are so much worse getting back on it.

Dawn that is very encouraging. I am 6 weeks and 1 day today I am hoping that in the next two weeks or better. Well I do feel better overall I'm still panicking driving and that's the most important reason for me taking this. I'm 40 and I feel the same way I am so angry that I even need to take something and fought it for so long. But I hear the longer you fight it the harder it is... I will keep you posted keep posting on this. And let us know how you're all doing it's really encouraging for mesmile
