Er....... I took 15 mg plus loads more when I could get 'em every night for twenty five years, and for 15 years before that I took millions of sleeping pills.

So maybe I'm not like you!!!  The rash has nothing to do with the pills, by the way.

I really hope that you don't have skin cancer.           love Tess

I used to clobazam in 20-30mg per day. It is more likely to be a reaction to the drugs in your liver. I suggest swapping it for a different drug. If you have get off it go to whatever your happiest place is. Mine was the beach and spend a tough few weeks there. Hope this helps.

Hi Daniel, Have you told your skin cancer doctor about your being on the zopiclone for so long? Sometimes drs don't check your 'whole chart' and check to see what meds you are on... Anyway, I would definately let him/her know...

I know chances are it is NOT caused by the zopiclone...but the body can do some quick turns at times and start 'causing' things!

Good luck to you... Just want to wish you well, and hope you hear from other posters that take your same med. Best wishes, Daniel.

Hi Daniel I was only on zopiclone fir the past few months I am going through a hellish ct withdrawal from it. It's a very poisonous drug so would be not surprised if this poison has caused your rash.

I am committed to going through the withdrawals. I just hope I can get through it. I wish you the best.

Tess knows a mountain more than I do about drugs, but I had an idea, so I just called my pharmacist who said rash is not a common side effect of anxiety meds, but a person could indeed get a rash if a person is allergic to something about the pill or capsule or one of the secondary things in the medication. He said this is more common than you would think.

Doing a little research, I found a medical site with a heading of Zopiclone and Rash, with charts and references I don't pretend to understand. I will write just what it said that I could clearly understand..."Skin rash is found among people who take Zopiclone, especially for people who are male, amd moreso if over 60 years old. Out of 6,047 people 171 had extreme skin rash"

I am definitely not qualified in any way to comment on most drugs, only the ones I've taken, so I have no comment or advice. I will just pass this on. Lots of luck. I am rooting for you, Daniel.lol

      Well! That's a surprise.

It is true that people can get a sudden allergy to something they have not been allergic to previously - I suppose you could call that a surprise allergy? (Very technical lol)

Anyway, I would have thought that if you were going to get a rash from zopiclone, you'd get it fairly quickly, but anything is possible, especially when you consider the number of drug companies who manufacture zopiclone now, as a generic medication - I know that during my drug-fest I would get different brands of zopiclone from the pharmacist, depending on which ones they had bought that week - it depends on the supplier as much as anyone else. Zimovane was the original zopiclone, produced by a drug company who feted it as a non-addictive sleeping pill.

Yeah, that was right, wasn't it...............

Once other companies were permitted to manufacture and sell the active ingredient in Zimovane (which is, of course, zopiclone) they got 'em out before you could say 'drug addiction' and made loadsamoney in the process.

Zopiclone's poor relation, zolpidem, soon followed, and many people prefer it to zopiclone because it hasn't got that nasty metallic after-taste which zopiclone is famous for. There's another 'Z' drug which I can't even remember the name of, but by then doctors had realised that zopiclone and zolpidem WERE addictive (what a surprise.)

What I think is odd is that doctors continue to prescribe it as the drug of choice for people who ask for sleeping pills, believing it to be less addictive and less harmful than the benzodiazepines (diazepam, temazepam, anythingepam and the US favourite, alprazolam (xanax.)

In fact there is no difference in the addictive nature of benzos versus Zs. But there probably IS a difference in the coating etc., which each company puts on their brand of zopiclone.

All of which suggests that it may not be the zopiclone itself causing the rash, but the particular brand which the (non-addicted hahaha) patient takes. i really don't know!!

Any pharmacologists on the site today?

One thing, Daniel, if you're still reading this - zopiclone is HELL to come off. It has a short half-life so the withdrawals are very nasty. If you are considering stopping zopiclone, don't go cold turkey. Get advice from Dr. Google on the Ashton Method and present it to your doctor. Or send me a PM. I'm currently tapering off all the benzos and Zs I've ever taken, and my specialist doctor changed me immediately to diazepam.

Hope your results are GOOD. Please let us know. love Tess xxx

Good point about brands. My sister takes a "cocktail" every day and cannot tolerate ANY generic. It took a lot of tries to find that out. I had the problem with a drug. It turned out I had terrible side effects with two of the brands, but one worked very well. It gets more and more complicated not only to be a medical pro, but to be a patient.rolleyes
