Anyone used a pedal exerciser?

I'm looking for ways to improve my leg muscles. I do walk every day, but otherwise am a blob at the computer or on the sofa. I've been looking at pedal exercisers on Amazon, wondering if these might help.

They're like a mini bike pedal set you can put under your desk or in front of the sofa. Most seem to have adjustable tension.

Swimming will be a great way to build up muscle as it use every single muscle in your body. I cant wait to start swimming again

I'd love to do a hydro program, but I don't drive and the places nearest me all require driving. They are also outside of my budget, which is as minimal as it gets...

Could you not just go to your local leisure centre for a swim. That would be easier, cheaper and just as effective

My new little "bike" arrived yesterday. After much swearing, and giving up on my part, my daughter took over and got the pedals on for me (I'd been trying to put them on the wrong sides, not realising they were marked "left" and "right").

I haven't worked out the computer on it yet, but I did have a good 90 minute pedal under my desk until the calf muscles on my non-op leg started to ache a bit.

I know it will probably help my lower legs more than my upper, but I definitely felt it working on the op-leg muscle that has most worried me. Since a couple of weeks after the op, I have had an indentation on the front of the thigh on that leg, which I was told was due to a muscle collapse. It has slowly been improving due to my daily walks, but it got a really good workout during my little pedal session yesterday, so I'm confident that buying it was a positive thing to do... I'll be using it every day.

      Hi Belle,

Congratulations !!!!  wow ... brilliant - 90 minutes seems a long time to me ... calf muscles are important too, right ? I mean they need to be strong to keep you balanced - once I had nice defined calves .. oh well ...

90 mins is a big long. I have it on low resistance to begin with, so it wasn't too bad. Yesterday, I did 45 mins in the morning, had my walk around midday and then did another 45 mins later in the day.

      Hi Karen.

After a good look around and surprised at the vast differences in cost, I bought a generic brand one from eBay. It was only $45AUD. But it's very sturdy, quiet and has a computer for various readings.
