Anyone using Daily Cialis instead of Tamsulosin?

I used Tamsulosin many years ago, but could not tolerate the side effects: major nasal congestion 24/7. Now that there's a generic for daily Cialis, I'm considering giving it a try.
Is anyone using daily Cialis instead of Tamsulosin? Would love to hear your experiences.

i have been using daily cialis for about a year after similar experience with Tamsulosin. i would say it is slightly less effective but gets the job done with far fewer side effects. If flow is not good, sometimes i resort back but never more than for a day or two every few months.

Hi Mike,
What dosage and frequency have you been doing with cialis? What side effects?
Thanks.

I take Cialis (brand version) 5mg each day. I'd previously spent years trying other combos; Flomax and Rapaflo both caused RE. Uroxatrol helped for awhile, but then stopped working. I started Dutasteride first to try to reduce prostate size (was 72cc, now down only to 65cc), then added the Cialis.
The Cialis had far more effect than any other drug I'd tried. I went from 3-4 urinations per night down to one. However my symptoms are still variable, and I still have bad nights about once a week.
After a year or so, my insurer stopped paying for brand Cialis and switched me to the generic. And my urinary function completely fell apart. I documented my symptoms over 6 months, and documented a 28% decline in urinary function over that time (long story...). After reviewing my data with my uro, he wrote an Rx specifically requiring the brand version. The insurer will only cover a part of it, leaving me stuck with a bill of about $2000 per year for the brand Cialis. It's still worth it.

Thanks Steve. Interesting.
What did you mean by:
my urinary function completely fell apart

I'll explain... I honestly don't know how common or uncommon my symptoms are. But for me, the biggest problem is that when I have a "bad night", it means that when I wake up to urinate overnight, or first thing in the morning, I have a screaming urge to go, but can barely get a few drops out. I take a brisk walk around the house for 5 minutes, then I can urinate pretty freely (most of the time). This might happen once overnight, or 4 times overnight. And I get these "bad nights" about 1-2 nights per week, and the other 5-6 nights I urinate normally. I almost never have obstructed flow during the day.
So when it "fell apart" while using the generic version of Cialis, I meant that instead of 1-2 bad nights per week, I was having 3-4 bad nights per week, sometimes almost every night. I tracked that, plus a few other symptoms, every day over 6 months while taking different versions of the drug, and the effect was clear. (I'm an engineer, so I realize that "correlation does not prove causation", but there was certainly correlation over a long period of time...) A 28% increase overall in the number of bad nights while taking the generic.
I've been back on the brand Cialis now for about a year, and I have not had any periods of time where my symptoms were as bad as they were while taking the generic.

Thanks for your reply. Very interesting. This stuff can be so tricky. I have a friend who has Parkinson's, and get very different results from her main medication depending on which company the med is from. Have you considered having one of the many procedures?

I took flowmax daily along with Cialis and neither really helped with BPH. I found that the generic Cialis did help with ease of erections which seems to have been negatively impacted by flowmax. Eventually, I had to do TURPs as the meds stopped helping.

Did the TURP help? Side effects? Did you consider other procedures?

Hi Richp21. Yes, the TURPs that I had did help. I am going to write a full posting next just to summarize what I've been doing since my last post when I was quite frustrated.
