Anyone using Hydromol OINTMENT has it helped?

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hya all, I’ve been prescribed Hydromol OINTMENT cream form to use instead of shower gels etc.

It’s quite greedy like your freezing the turkey or chicken for the roast. Wasn’t at all, appealing, used for the whole body. Was told to use when itchy as well as a cream.

How’s other people getting on with this cream is it any good ?

- also how do people wash the hair? Separately from the shower/bath or at the same time? It’s just would the shapoo give you a flare up?

Hi , I was diagnosed last November , they gave me betnovate ointment and told to use aqueous cream to wash in , wasn’t keen so I read all the posts and tried a few suggestions . Finally found a regime that works  ( for now ) wash my hair in the shower but don’t let the shampoo run onto body , use pink Sanex shower gel on body but not private bits , rinse , then wash the itchy bits with e45 emolllient wash cream and rinse with plenty of water , pat dry ,  then hydromol on front bit and bottom  ,  I wash wen I can during day job permitting with just water .  I think hydromol is too thick for body too . What works for one person doesn’t work for the next . It’s just a matter of trying  different  suggestions , I can’t use coconut oil it stings like hell . Hope this helps , good luck 👍

Hi hun, thanks for sharing, I’ve only been diagnosed last week so trying to get around the whole condition & whet works best! Last week I done my normal routine and saw a fare up which freaked me out.

Hydro cream is so greesy and doesn’t sell nice either. Thanks for your routine will try E45 cream for washing. Sounds silly was thinking of buying those plastic pants that are waterproof. Don’t know if they would do the job!

I colour my hair With those chemicals so high wanted to invest in the plastic pants. Otherwise would have to wash over the sink.

      Wish life would be simple!!!

Hydromol is not really for washing with...it is used as a barrier to keep the genital area moist after the treatment with cortisone cream is finished...aqueous cream is for washing instead of soap or shower gel....leaves the skin very soft which is what you need. Plastic pants are out of the question....only cotton pants will do.

Hydromol is greasy and keeps the area moist, it does not wash off. There are other options if you feel unhappy with I recommended. Some people use coconut oil, ask your doctor to prescribe something else.

Hi hun, I’m still waiting for my appoint with nhs only had the private consultation with demotologist who dismissed everything I said to her which I’ve picked up from all these nice people suffering with same condition here.

She said Aquas cream is not suitable and won’t help, don’t use coconut oil, and use this hydro cream everywhere - even the nurse said so too. Dont use anything else. Will bring this back up when I get the Nhs outpatients appoint soon.

I’ve thrown all knickers out, lace, silk, half Cotton etc. and have purchased granny pants all 100% cotton which have helped thanks.

I was asking about the plastic knickers only to use once I have a shower to wash my hair so no shampoo etc gets down there. True I can just bend down and wash worried about splashes but am trying to think long term.

Currently I wash hair separately and shower.

Has anyone tried tis would it work. Thanks hun x

I am lucky enough to have access to private heath care....my GP and also my dermatologist prescribed Hydromol as a barrier cream, it is thick but stays on the skin for long time. A lot of people here in forums use different things to wash with....it is a personal choice, find something which you like and agrees with you. All the ladies here know what they are talking about, tried and tested products. I personally do not like or tolerate well coconut oil in that area....some do. Do as they say, you can wash with Hydromol....but wash regularly with bicarbonate of soda too, stretch the skin well when applying the cortison cream.

You are really funny...throwing your knickers out. You will not be able to wear anything else but cotton ones. Also, I do not wear tights anymore....I also wash my hair separately and shower, no more soaking in a hot bath. I have a spray bottle where I keep water mixed with bicarbonate of soda....and spray away when I use the barrier Hydromol after every visit to the loo. Even plain water and a powerful shower helps...........

I wish well and keep in touch

Hi there, I use Hydromol. Ointment but only as a barrier / moisturiser. It's brilliant for that. I use Aveeno bath/shower gel and have no problems with that and actually make me feel clean. I hated itself aqueous cream to wash in, it was greasy, and certainly didn't feel clean afterward plus the shower tray was lethal it was so slippery . If you only have a bath then I suggest you bake then get out of bath and wash hair with your usual shampoo and conditioner. I use steroid ointment them after 30 mins put the Hydromol on. I hope this helps

Thanks hun. I normally have a shower and sometimes have baths too. Since I’ve noticed the patches I haven’t had a bath tbh as got freaked out. And was use to using muscle soak Radoks, seaweed soaks etc. they are totally out the question so not use to just sitting in a water filled bath with that greesy soap. Thanks, would love to use some kind of body wash Aveeno will look out for it next time I go for a shop. Thanks x

You are very welcome. You don't mention a steroid ointment ? Have you been prescribed one ? If so that will get rid of the white patches quite quickly normally. Usually in a matter of weeks. If you have rub in for 90 seconds and try to gently stretch and massage skin at the same time to help prevent fusing . LS is an autoimmune disease so adopting an anti inflammatory diet is really helpful. Stay away from sugar as loads of us suffer flare ups if we have sugar. Stress is another cause of flare ups. Unfortunately we can avoid sugar, not so was to avoid stress in this day and age. ! Good luck hon.

Hi hun thanks for your advice I’ve been applying dermovate cream, only been a week now. Thanks I will start to stretch the skin - just so much do deal with. Have my hands full with a toddler & being a single parent.

I have made some serious changes and hoping that things either stay the same or improve. Could I ask is this the same cream you are using? Also does the white patches disappear?

Makes things million times worse when you have a period!

Yes I use Dermovate OINTMENT not cream. I know what you mean its all do overwhelming at first. I would try to keep it simple. Use the steroid as prescribed, rubbing in for 90 seconds. Use a barrier ointment to hydrate and protect and try to eat healthily . The white plaques normally go within a matter of weeks 2/3 usually. Course everyone's is different , but as a general rule they go quite quickly. Let me know how you are getting on hon x

    Hi also recently diagnosed 😵

I have exzema so i always have used simple or anything non perfumed or containing parabins.

Love coconut oil body washes buy online or in TJ max on offer when i lived in the Uk.

I used Derma 500 lotion to wash my bits and use betnavate ointment and petroleum jelly or coconut oil as tge barrier .

Also spray with bicarb and water after using the toilette.

This seems to be working for me also no dairy or yeast , trying to knock off sugar is the hardest as i have a sweet tooth 🤗

Cutting right down on sugar is essential....you can replace sugar with sweetner. Lots of vegetables and fruit, lactose free, wheat free if you can manage.

I have almost the same routine as you do...no coconut oil though.
