Hi im wondering if anyone with Ectopic beats / Palpitations struggles with work or holding down a job in gerneral?

I know that when the problems strike there is very little i can think about other than them to the detrement of anything else i could or should be doing. I even find it so life limiting these days as everywhere i go i need to know how far to the hospitals or doctors. So much so that i barely get out and live these days.

I am so sorry that you are suffering so much.  I suffer with ectopic beats daily  and have done for many years now. Have you had all the tests and what does your cardiologist say.? I have a loop recorder inside my chest which monitors my beats and then it is sent straight through to the hospital. Is this something you have or has your cardiologist suggested this. I know how scary it is when it starts, but I do have a job and try to ignore them when it starts. Ann

      thanks Ann

       yes i have had 3 stress tests over the 10 years 3 ecos one with contrast, multiple holters of varying time scales (although the 24 hours are a waste of time as they are too short to record anything) and many ECG's so really lots of tests, still the worst effect is that which it causes to our minds, that is somethng im trying to sort out. the problem i find is that when i find a councilor it goes a bit like this;

Me: i have health anxiety every time i get palpitations

      Wise council: Palpitations you say

      Me: yes

WC: so your heart beats out of sync? hmmm have you had it checked out

      Me: yes

WC: normally in normal health anxiety cases i would advocate when you have a health symptom to hold off got to the doctors straight away maybe leave it a day or so........however i would not recomend that with heart related issues, just in case on that occasion it is serious, I understand what your going through sorry i cant be of more help.

      Me: thanks, bye

so you can see the issue in trying to fix the mind part.

Oh I know,People don't understand if they haven't been through it.It does your head in. As you say the Holters are rubbish that's why I have a loop recorde because you can't miss it and if there are any changes it's picked up. But I am taking Magnesium that has helped a little bit. It has calmed them down, not stopped them, but my cardiologist agrees with magnesium. I hope this helps. Feel free to keepin touch. Annx

Thanks Ann I'll keep in touch. Do you take any other meds? I have tried diazepam in the past which is great however I understand the issues with it also my GP won't prescribe it any more. Could do with something that works well for anxiety I don't need an anti depressant because I'm not really depressed just Anxious to the max

I have ectopics. Mine started last year with stress and anxiety. The doc said it was adrenaline. I couldn't sleep as they were so bad. I have had all the tests and have a healthy heart apparently. But they just won't go. They have reduced and I feel about four or five but they really scare me. I guess I am stuck with them now. I too have health anxiety and I used to be a good sleeper but now I struggle as I am always worrying.

I totally understand Susansasha yet it only seems to be us sufferers who truly do understand.

It would be so nice for a cure as they take over life and grind you down.

Do you take any meds for the anxiety?

Hi I don't take any meds now but I was on mirtazapine for anxiety and they helped me sleep but came off them three months ago and still struggling with sleep. I was given eight diazapam by doc and have only ever taken half two months ago and had to taken half last night to help me sleep. Some nights I am ok but last two just can't get to sleep not sure if still withdrawals from mirtazapine. I am very reluctant to take diazapam but they are just in emergency and like I said have only taken half of one.

Hi, I suffered for several years with very strong palpitaions every other beat for years. It stressed me out, kept me awake etc but I decided to not let it stop me doing anything and believe me I know that even though the Dr keeps saying it's harmless it is worring doing physical things. So I carried on as before working as a Firefighter, doing fitness etc and managed somehow to make it part of the background of my life not a focus. Just for the record I took chelated potassium one day and they stopped two hours later (yes I partied!!!) also I sometimes relapse when I eat a very large meal or dark chocolate. Good luck and keep strong and know that there are many of us that understand what you are going through.

well done David im impressed you managed to maintain a physically and mentally demanding job with ectopics.

i think sometimes the fear of waiting for another ectopic causes anxiety in itself which in turn causes ectopics, Ironic really.
