Anyone work after not sleeping for two days?

Ho hum. Here I am again, middle of the night and wide awake with no sign of sleepiness in sight. I am 33 and have struggled with isomnia my whole life. I've tried pretty much everything like setting a sleep schedule, drinking wine (which became a bit excessive and kept depleting my immune system), prescription and OTC sleeping pills, relaxation and visualization techniques, binueural beats, turning screens off before bed and any other relatively useless recommendation you will find on most websites. I'm not depressed at all and have never been.  I have a high stress job and do tend to have some generalized anxiety. Had a pretty stressful year with a two shoulder operations and being unable to be as active as I like. Three weeks ago I got sick with bronchitis and the cough kept me up most of the night for the first week which turned into anxiety about sleep again and here I am writing on a forum in the middle of the night smile So I have had many sleepless nights in the past three weeks and have now not slept for 48 hours straight and I have to go to work in a few hours. Trying not to stress about it but that's pretty hard at this point. Even today at work I felt spacey, shaky, clumsy, dizzy and tingling in my hands and feet (this tends to happen to me after no sleep). But I don't really feel tired and wasn't falling asleep at work or anything. . I would call in tomorrow if I could but I actually really have to go tomorrow as the client I'm seeing has flown in from across the country to see me. Luckily I can take Friday off which I plan to do. My question is, anyone else have gone to work after two full days no sleep (and really limited sleep for the past three weeks) This is pretty bad even for me now. I'm sure I looked like a bag of garbage yesterday and tomorrow will just be worse.

    Hi,

I am older than you and only work part time now. I was a full time infant teacher. I have experienced sleep anxiety for years and like you I have not slept for two whole days not even half an hour. I feel just like you do spaced out, clumsy tingly occasional erratic heart beat etc. I can only liken it to being severely jet lagged.I do feel sorry for you as you sound as if you have a full on job. The nights just seem sooo long and all I can think of is how dreadful I am going to feel the next day. I took Nytol last night with no effect! I know if I were to go and lay down now I wouldn't be able to sleep as I don't feel tired and can only think it's the adrenaline keeping us going. I am already stressing about going to bed tonight! I know it's not much help but just wanted to let you know you are not alone

    Best wishes Angie

Hi i am just going to leave one comment one thing that helps me every time without fail.

Some people will dismiss or not bother trying this. What i do every night is pray the holy rosary if you learn the prayer and meditate on the mysteries, it is a long prayer which i rarely can finish, i usually fall asleep after a few minutes. All you need is a rosary beads and to learn the rosary. I can guarantee it will work for you also. I close my eyes and meditate on the mysteries while saying the prayers. If you have problems with sleep or stress or any form of negative problems in your life this will work to bring you peace.

    Hi Haley,

Seen yiur comment too late, but I've had nights like those as well. Not too many, thankfully, but had them. I'm 30 and have been struggling with insomnia my whole life, too. And although I'm not generally an anxious person, I can be anxious about sleep.

If you're still here - do you take pills? I've found that a little dose of, for instance, Valium calms me down enough to sleep. It's important to keep in mind to take it only on the days when you just can't take it anymore, like what you've described just now.

You will hardly get addicted to a pill that way, and it can help.

Depending on ur body and which tick bite/con infection it effects ppl differently. I've talked to many drs. Tryin to figure out what was wrong for a yr. Lyme/co infections can mimic and disease out there. If u haven't been checked, its worth giving it a shot. But trick is goin to a Dr that actually test for co infections/lyme itself/and the antibodies. I've had a spinal tap and it still missed the lyme. Its a tricky disease to find. I can't stress enough u have to go to the correct Dr for it. Plz message me and I can get more into detail. I just found this site and I'm tryin to help many ppl as I can. I know how awful this stuff is to live with
