Hi, I see there are many paople with aortic aneurisms. I have 2, one thorasic and one abdominal. I am so afraid to go to sleep at night, afraid of not waking up. My biggest problem right now is I have no medical ins. to go to any doctors and SSD denied me everything, because it's not based on the illness you have, and I have many, they're only interested in how long you worked, if you havent worked in the last five years , you're automatically denied!!!

My abdominal one has grown quite slowly from 3.1cm to 3.9cm.over the last twelve years. It worried me at first but now I seldom think about it.

Hi, It seems that aortic aneurisms are quite common and usually come in twos. They increase in size quite slowly. Sounds like you are in the USA. In England, once aneurisms are discovered they are checked yearly until they get to 5cms.+, after that - more frequently.

The risk of surgery always exists so that repair of an aneuyrism is not considered until it is at least 5cms. when the risk of surgery is weighed against the risk of surgery.

Most of us who are retired, if we have any medical problems, they seem to come in multiples of several at a time. Eventually we get used to this and are grateful for having had the life we have so far. Please, enjoy the gift of each day and offer your soul to the Almighty each night.

I recently met a man of 88 who was on his way home by bus after his first check up after his aortic aneurism surgery and had made a good recovery. When being refused travel insurance by Saga because of my aneurism the girl admitted that I posed little risk and her grandmother had been operated on at at 92 for hers.

I told that story to the girl doing my annual scan. She said it would not cost them much if it burst when on holiday.....just the cost of the ambulance to take me to the mortuary:-)

Re thanking the Almighty it reminds me of the ending of the cheerful prayer my mother had me say as a child. "If I die before I wake , I pray the Lord my soul to take"  That always rather worried me.
