Aortic Regurgitation

a cardiologist told me yesterday I have a leaky aorta. He asked me if I had symptoms such as heart racing, feeling tired easily chest pain etc.  I said there were some but always put down to hypothyroid, anxiety etc and I thought I was fine - walked 2 or 3 miles on weekends with dogs etc. When I've had time to think I realise I have quite a few aches etc that are different to my usual aches - sometimes feeling more like muscles are tired after exercise - this is in my legs. Also feel I now have questions but don't know how to get them answered. He wS going to look closer at my scan results and, depending on what he sees, either sign me off for my gall bladder op or send me for further tests. I'm not sure how to get my questions answered now - anyone have any advice?

Hi Cardiologist Thought they were people who dealt with heart problems ??. Look an angiogram is one of the best to find out if you have heart problems. I had 12 months of ECG`S yes high. Then Angiogram consultant said to me you are having a 4 way by pass within 1 month. That is how good an angiogram is. It is very expensive and hospitals do no like doing them . It is totally pain less. All the best

Hi Debbie, I bet you wish you'd asked more questions now! Always the same, we get outside and think of everything we wanted to ask!  Mine was a leaky mitral valve, only found after I had a cough for 2 years and the lung consultant decided to listen to my heart! The cough is due to fluid in the lungs due to the leak but not sure if it always happens, I was up several times a night coughing clear fluid up (too much info?!) apart from that I was fine, no breathlessness or tiredness at all, the doc said I could have had it since birth. If the leak isn't too big they sometimes just keep an eye on it, I had the op and they were able to repair it instead of giving me a new valve thank goodness. They will know more once they have examined your scan results and you will get an appointment to discuss it but for the time being try not to be anxious! the good thing is they know what the problem is and will get it sorted.

You didn't say how bad the aortic leak is, trace, mild, moderate or severe?  Depending upon that measurment, you might not want gall bladder surgery just yet.

I would definitely ask the doctor just how bad it is or isn't.  Good luck.
