Hi, I am on 5mg twice a day.  DVT diagnosed in thigh and behind knee in December.  Will be on apixiban for about 6 months, maybe 1 year.  5 months in.

I had bilateral pe in november i was on for 6 months and they took me off because my ct was clear. How do you feel on apixaban

Had to stop apixaban due to side effects, the fatigue was awdul. Now trying to reinstate warfarin, much to my annoyance, and back tomthe old routine. I am a lifer so no other choice.

has anyone else had to come off apixaban?

I came off the apixaban because my 6 months was over and my ct scan was clear. I came off about a week and half ago and have not had any promblems thus far.

Hi Ann, I have been on Apxiban since December and not noticed any side effects until last month or so, I feel really achy and as you say fatigued.  Trouble is how do we know it is pills.  Do you feel better now you have come off the, has fatigue gone? I have no veins (baby ones) so trying to take blood regularly is a non starter hence the reason for apixiban,  Hospital said 6 months min maybe one year, will see at next scan in June.

Hi, as mentioned to Ann I have not had any real problems, did start to feel achey and tired after about 3 months, but nothing else.  I do have arthritis in neck and hands and the fact that I cannot take ibuprofen is probably the cause of aches etc.  Like you I am due to come off at some point, have a scan in June and if clear can come off then.  To be honest mentally scared to come off, especially as all the gumpf in box says do not just stop as you risk a stroke. How did they take you off, was it "just stop" or "slowly".  I hate being on them, but hate the thought of coming off as well.  Take care

A bit less fatigued and less nauseous so thats goo. But warfarin also causes tiredness. Hard to know whats best. You are fortunate youre not a lifer like me.

      Hi Ann,

Yes, I was started on Apixaban after my second DVT, but had to come off it after 24h because of a (mild) reaction to it (itching, rash, higher blood pressure). Was switched to good old warfarin for three months. Now just moved to Dabigatran (Pradaxa): on it for a couple of days, no issues so far.

    Dear All,

I would advise membership of Anticoagulation UK, which distributes a most informative magazine to its members.

I have just received the latest issue this morning.

Of interest, is an article related to Cancer Associated Thrombosis (CAT).

A free resource is available from the following link:

    www.anticoagulationeurope.org/cancer-blood-clots

I hope that it is of use!

    God bless you all!

    Regards

    Nigel
