Apixaban (Eliquis)

I  recently have had a second dvt this time in my right leg (leg swelling up) and was originally prescribed rivaroxaban which caused serious heavy side effects including bleeding, tiredness etc. After a number of visits to my GP blood tests and eventually a hospital visit for a colonoscopy my prescription was changed to edoxaban which for a short while seemed ok but the symptoms albeit a little less soon returned.

My Gp contacted the dvt clinic regarding my situation and was advised by a specialist to prescribe Apixaban which I am taking at the present time. I still bleed on occasion and feel tired at times also an ache in my lower left side first thing in the mornings are the main symptoms although they are reduced, Leg still swells after a period of time.

Rivaroxaban didnt work for me so it was warfarin, tried eleqquis for a while but not a good reaction so back to warfarin. I think there isnt any anticoagulant which works for us really and we just end up with all the side effects.  I actually wonder what would happen if we didnt take them, would our outcome be any worse

With my first dvt some years ago I was prescribed Warfarin which worked but with this second dvt both the dvt clinic and my GP led me towards these new drugs. I have enquired as to going onto Warfarin again but get nowhere!..... only told that I take my chances by coming off the Apixaban.

      Hello ann,

I have been diagnosed with blood clots in the lungs after a hip replacement, apixaban has been prescribed for 3 months. I do not take any drugs normally but realise the clots are dangerous.

I am angry with myself for not taking the supplement bromelain after I had stopped my 28 days of fragmin injections ended. In september when I am free of apixaban I will start taking it, it may stop platelets from clotting. I have read once you have clots you are more likely to have them again.
