Apparently pointless scalpel marks after surgery

Hi. I've recently had a laparoscopic hernia repair with mesh insert. It seems to have gone well and I'm slowly recovering.

The thing is, in addition to the three wounds you would expect for the surgical tools etc., I seem to have seven very small incisions located all around the hernia site.

They seemed to be sealed with surgical glue and I'm not worried about them but I have no clue what they're for. I never got to see the surgeon and forgot to ask the nurse.

As far as I can see they are just an infection waiting to happen - and they itch like crazy. Anyone know what they're for ?

If I were you, I would ask for an appointment with the surgeon to discuss this further.

yea, well itoo had keyhole for a double inguinal repair. what scars that were there as a result have now vanished. i had nothing like what you have described.

i would get your doctor informed asap.

having said all that, its probably nothing to worry about, but definitely get it checked out just in case.

    good luck

This sounds like a game sometimes played by surgeons to see who gets to operate. One of them makes a small cut on the abdomen as a target, then they step back and each throws 3 scalpels and the closest one wins and gets to operate. This is why there are seven cuts.

    NOT! Just joking. LOL 😃)

    Definitely talk with your surgeon.

The only explanation I can think of, and it is farfetched, is that your surgeon had trouble finding the optimum location for the surgical portals.

But seven mistakes would be gross incompetence, actually beyond gross incompetence.

Or it could simply mean that your surgeon wasn't allowed to bring his seeing eye dog into the OR.

Good luck, and talk with your surgeon.

If possible, could you post the explanation?
