Apparently there's nothing wrong with my gallbladder

Posted , 6 users are following.

ive paid privately to see a consultant, had blood tests and and MRI and he's written to say that there's nothing wrong with my gallbladder, no stones, no sphincter of oddi disorder. No nothing.

so now I've been referred to gastroenterologist to try and discover what's wrong with me. I'm feeling pretty gutted, after 4.5 years of pain I had hoped to get to the bottom of it. Now I am on a limited diet of cereal, bread, rice, chicken, potato and salad. Anything else causes this terrible pain in my gallbladder area and runs down my ribs to the right side of my torso and lasts for a couple of hours to a couple of days.

what else could this be?

Boy X-rays can also show GB stones, your symptoms sound similar to mine. Hope that you get thru to a solution soon.

Hi, if you haven't had a HIDA scan then that is the next step to see if the gallbladder is working properly. All my tests came back as normal except the HIDA scan so you do need this done before ruling out any gallbladder problems. As you paid privately to have these tests done he doesn't seem to have done a very good job. Blood tests and an mri wouldn't show if you've got sphincter of oddi dysfunction. Not every consultant is a specialist in this area as it is very specific and some don't even recognise it as a condition.

When you get a date for your gastro let me know and keep me updated with everything but I think that you need to have HIDA scan to see if your gallbladder is working properly.

Take care and keep me updated x

    Hi Ket,

No wonder that you feel so awful, but don't give up!  A gastroenterologist is the best choice to diagnose and treat what you are experiencing, including ordering the appropriate tests and being qualified to analyze the results.

Frankly, your consultant should have referred you to a gastroenteroligist...

Best of luck to you, and please let us know how you get on!

Yes he has referred me to a gastro waiting to hear from them. I will ask about the HIDA scan as this is something he did mention but now doesn't seem to think it necessary. Maybe another doctor will! I keep wondering whether I'm imagining it but approx 30-45 mins after eating something I shouldn't have, I get the stabbing pain under my right rib then a dull ache all the way along my lower ribs to my side. I can't understand what else this would be? My mum thinks maybe I have an allergy to something but surely this would cause cause in my actual stomach or lower down but not under my right rib

      Hi Ket,

If you were allergic, I think you might also experience something more than pain.  You might vomit or have diarrhea or break out in hives.

I'm glad you're going to see a gastro. xx

Hi Ket, it definately sounds as though its gallbladder related from the pain you've been having. It sounds very similar to my pain that I had.

When is your appointment with the gastro?

Keep us updated with how you get on? x
