Application of Clobetasol

Hello. I am now using the clobetasol oointment and I am very worries about how to apply this. Is it bad to apply this on my labi minoraa (if the skin is already thinned out there due to scarring?) How am I supposed to prevent further atrophy of my labia minora? Should I also be applying this on top of the skin that has fused over my clitoris? Annnd what happens if I miss a day of putting on the clobetasol ointment? Should I just skip that day. I have just started puttting it on and have been told to apply it every single day for the first month.

Thanks,

Nicole

    Hi Nicole,

Keep it by your bed or somewhere prominent so that you can see it or put reminders on your mobile until you get into the habit of putting it on every day. Put it on all areas that are affected and the essential thing is to rub it in for 90 seconds. Most of us have Bryn been told to put it on every day for a month then every other day for s further month then once to twice a week to maintain condition of skin. Hopefully this way you can keep your labia not lose them as I and many have. I rub ii into the skin that had formed over my clitoris and stretch the skin gently to prevent further fusing. If you use moisturiser or barrier cream then wait at least half an hour after rubbing in steroid. I have noticed a vast difference in the condition of my skin since doing this, hardly any areas of white skin now. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Thank you for the very helpful information! I wanted to ask though, if I apply clobetasol to the part of my labia that I have left,, will this make the skin thinner? The skin in already thin there. Also, I was told to put on the moisturiser before the clob- is this correct?

      Thanks,

      Nicole

Your skin dries out which creates it's own problems as you know. There has been times I've just used clob because the itch and soreness drives me berserk. I could kill at times

When you use moisturiser rub it in and leave for a while before using clo

Well thats a new one on me Nicole, ive not heard of putting the steroid on last ??! But if the consultant/dermatologist told you that then go with it for a while. If it was a GP I would question it. GP's generally know less than we do about the condition. LS is a problem with thickening of the skin so generally it benefits or has no thinning effect on the skin but only you can see the condition. Use a mirror daily so you can see immediately any changes , good or otherwise. If in doubt, question the proffesionals, they generally do not give us anywhere near enough info.

Once things are under control figure out what works for you. I was prescribed the clob as well as Elidel (which isn't a steroid). When I first developed LS, my skin was discolored and I had horribly painful tearing and bad itching. The steroid I used twice a day until things got better than did once a day for each cream. I am very anti-meds so being diagnosed with something that'll require lifelong meds has been really difficult for me. Anyway- this lead me to trying to not use clob at all. For now I'm able to manage things only using the Elidel when things start to itch. I think I use it maybe twice a week and haven't had to use the clob at all! I have it on hand incase but since I'll be dealing with this for the next 40+ years I don't want to overuse something and become resistant to it either.

I've been using it for 3 months back to the hospital end of the week.

My partner has been putting the cream straight on the whole areas, sometimes it still just flares up
