Appointment at rheumatology clinic went really well!

I was quite worried about this appointment as the Consultant had written to my GP telling him I would be reducing pred by 1mg per month and he was going to put me on Methotrexate.

After going through dozens of posts from people on this site I couldn't find a good reason why I should put myself through it!!

My appointment was with a nurse specialist and when I told her I was really reluntant to take methotrexate she simply said "Fine, but we may need to bear it in mind in the future"

I do not have to go back for 3 months and my GP will issue the prescriptions for pred, so I am now confident I will be able to reduce at my own pace and I feel much better. I don't expect any problems for the first couple of months but if there are I can follow a slower reduction plan.

I did try the AA just to show I wasn't totally uncooperative but it made me so ill that after the second dose I decided 'no more.'  Haven't actually told anyone that yet!

Kate I think you are quite right to listen to your body. Having completely messed up my reduction because of a doctor telling me I must get of pred I have gone back almost 3 years!

Good luck with the slow reduction.

I just wish some of these doctors would spend a bit of time reading the posts of people on this site.  We are people not theories!

    So very happy for you!

Methotrexate might help some and it is a personal decision. After dreadful side effects, my doctor added it to my drug allergy list. Unfortunately, it has changed my life negatively and irreversibly.

It will never pass my lips again.

To know your doctor respected your choice is so heartening!!!

It was given to me to help. Noone knew the consequences it would present. I wish I would have said, "No."

Smiling for you, hoping you feel better every day. Thank you for sharing.

Nurse specialists are so much more realistic!!! Have you had a dexascan before being given the AA? And had your vit D and calcium levels checked? And have you been given calcium/vit D supplements?

Good for you Kate, listen to your body. You know how you feel, get yourself stable and reduce at your pace. I personally like DSNS using small reductions. Good luck, think positive with a smile. ☺️
