Appointment for consultation- 5 months after colonoscopy!

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hi all

I'm new to the site and was diagnosed with barrets several years ago

I have had around 5 colonoscopies however I had one in August 2014 and 5 months later I have an appointment sent through to come in and see a consultant. I phoned up to cancel as it usually done through a virtual clinic and thought it was a mistake as it has been 5 months. The person who answered said they cannot discuss my case however I really do need to come in and explained they had only just received the biopsy results. Has anyone else experienced this. Should I be as concerned as I feel or any advice in general?

Many thanks in advance

    Hi lee

Wow 5 months I have not experienced a delay of that size with whatever I have had wrong with me.

The way in which I would handle this is. If there had have been anything major wrong in there then you would have known about it sooner in two ways.firstly they wouldnt have let slip a major diagnosis and informed you pronto.Secondly you would probably have had a worsening of your symptoms and health. If you have not experienced any change in your condition, then I would look upon your report as being put on a pile of nothing serious found. This could probably account for the delay. However its in your best interest to follow up the call for you to go back and see the specialist. It may be that they are calling you back as a matter of protocol. If and when you go and there is nothing major wrong which i presume will be the case. Then I suggest you stress to the consultant that you have been put through the mill with worry and ask for an explanation as to how such a mistake could have been made.

You'll be fine mate good luck.

      Thanks Wando, that helps.

I also called my Drs and actually managed to talk to someone who looked through my notes and found the biopsy results. It showed no change so a bit of a relief there. Still curious as to why they want to see me and sometimes difficult to look at the positives

I will post back when I find out on Tuesday. Thanks again.

Lee sounds OK.I had the same fear with a blood test taken back in Jan 2014 and then in December received a letter informing that they had found an abnormality having told me it was all OK.

Worried they took another blood sample and later informed me that it was OK but they had to monitor my kidney function regularly.

So dont worry its just one of the normal hiccups the system can throw up. Ted

      Hi Ted

      Yep lee will be fine.

I also agree that the system can sometimes fail.No one is perfect and the machines/computers of today have blips as you well know. That does not mean that us humans don't worry when they do go wrong, but alls well that ends well Ted.

Good health to both of you.

    Hi all.

Had my consultation today and the first thing they said was "it's ok, it's not cancer"

That was a bit of relief for me.

They have upped my original meds and will be keeping a closer eye on me bringing my Gastroscopy forward instead of 2 years time it will now be in march of this year. I found out that my barrets is actually 7cm in length. Does size matter??? Lol! She also mentioned something loke continued or continuation displaysiawhich means it's moving in the wrong direction but still under lower grade dysplasia. After my next scope they'll make a decision whether or not to redo the fundiplocation. Had my first in 2003. Wow has it been that long.

Thanks to all those who sent messages. It helped. To all those still going through it, medical science is advancing all the time so there is hope for so many of you.

    All the best, Lee
