i am a 52yr old male and suffered a really bad bout of the flu about 2 mths ago.i had to go to the doctor in the end to shift it and after 2 courses of anti biotics it finally decided to clear up.unfortunately it has left me with dulled hearing in one ear, which having taken prescription nose drops and counter bought nasal sprays, does not seem to be doing any good,i have decided to leave it to clear up on its own.

I am a 31 year old guy and was told yesterday i need my third pair of grommits inserted.....I cant help but feel this is not going to acieve anything longterm and my hearing will just get worse. Its very frustrating not being able to hear correctly and people look gone out at you if you ask them to repeat what they have said

Had virus at beginning of year with dizziness, loss of balance, dreadful `cold' symptoms. Prescribed sea sickness pills and eye exercises!!! Ended up with glue ear in left ear but hearing made much worse as I already have hearing loss in that ear. Still have glue ear 8 months on. No other treatments offered.

my six year old son is about to have his 4th set of gromets,we became aware of his hearing difficulty when he was slow to speak as a baby, after having his first set of grommets the change in him,his speach and behavour was amazing.I will always remember when he awoke from his op and ran straight to the tv on the ward,he was amazed to hear the tweenies singing on tv,and he seemed delighted with every noise around him.Although i am grateful to his doctor,i would think that by now they would have a more permanenet solution to this childhood problem,he always has about 6 months with good hearing followed by six with awful hearing, this does nothing for him at school, when he catches up,he soon falls back down again, but still can be an amazing op for some severe cases.

As I have to decide for my son (18 months) if he should be operated to receive a pair of grommets, I'm asking around and look on internet and your case doesn't seem to be an exception. My question is, in your case and others, was the allergic rhinitis diagnosed before? Why nothing is done to cure this allergy? Did you try ostheopathy?

i first noticed something was wrong with my son's hearing at his hearing test when he was 8 months old. i took him to my gp many times yet it was only when he was three that i was told he had glue ear and it shouldnt last too long. now my son is eight and has had grommits 3 times. yet there is still no improvement, i'm fighting for another appointment.

my son was 5 when he had his adenoids out and grommets put in both ears, which made a huge difference.now 2 yrs down the line he is again awaiting for a hospital apptmnt as he has on going ear infections.Antibiotics no longer work for him as eardrops don't either. As a parent it is very tiring and even more frustrating when they are in pain and can't sleep or lie down as it hurts them so much,i just wish i could take the pain away from my little boy so he can lead a pain free life. Hopefully one day in the near future he will be able to.
