Are balance problems normal with eustachina tube dysfunction

Hi, I have been suffereing from eustachina tube dysfunction for 1 and a half months. During this time I have been having problems with my balance among many other symptoms. I was wondering if anyone is having similar problems with ETD. I was given methylprednisolone tablets, I am getting so worried I may have to take them as this is just not going away. I also have tinnitus in both ears, pressure around the ears and a dull pain down my neck. All of it is getting scary at this point. I have ENT appointment soon but I don't know what to do in the meantime. Symptoms are worse with less sleep and fatigue. Multiple doctors have looked in my ears and say I have no ear infection. Getting scared/worried.

Hello.  It's good that you are seeing an ENT.   Doctor will most likely administer a hearing test (audiogram) to measure any hearing loss and what type and should be able to diagnose your problem.  Since you already have the prednisone, what is holding you back from taking it?  It's a steriod that might be effective in relieving your symptons if they are caused by inflamation or fluid buildup in the inner ear.  ENT would likely prescribe that anyway as first course of treatment.

good luck.  Let us know what the ENT says.

Ya, it's normal for me.  Not vertigo, but light-headedness and mild dizziness, particularly when the weather changes and the humidity gets high.  My ETD has slowly improved over the last year and so has the dizziness.  What you describe - tinnitus, pain, and pressure - is very similar to what I've had the pleasure of experiencing; however, there is light at the end of the tunnel and try to worry about it since the anxiety will only make it worse.

Sleep, sleep, and sleep helps.  Also, I believe that diet and exercise has had a very positive impact on my ETD.  The ENTs, not so much.

Join the club of miser smile  I've had it for 2 months now.  Have tried everything there is to try including hot steam and Vicks inhalation, steroid nasal sprays, Prednisolone, Vicks rubbed on the back of my ears, NeilMed nasal rinse, Actifed.  I think I'm jumping on the "there is nothing you can do about it" wagon.  I am currently sporting a really bad black eye due to balance problems for it.  I must say in the last week for a couple of days it did get a little better but then went to being bloked again sad  At least you've been referred to an ENT so be grateful to that - they won't refer me as they say it is something that has to get better on its own - or not at all.  Good luck to you from a fellow sufferer. xx

    Getting  scared/worried.

If you look at some of my postings here you'll find you are not alone.Sadly most of us have come to terms with the condition.Others seem to just talk about all their other ailments, which really doesn't help at all.Just know this.

AT THIS TIME THERE IS NO TREATMEMT & NO CURE.

I do find that drinking copious amounts of ice cold cider helps, but maybe I just stop noticing it.  Bad side effects though, on Tuesday I was fast asleep and the Tesco man came, I stood up so quickly I lost my balance and fell into my dresser.  I have a beaut of a black eye now.  Plus I had a hang over all day yesterday sad

Dear Alexia,You do seem to be in the wars>however copious amounts of cider or any type of alcohol never helps any condition.I do hope your eye gets better very soon.

Hi. It is worrying isn't it. I have to tell you this can go on a long time. So many of us on here have had it a long time, seen doctors, tried everything but still much the same. First off, your ent appt. will check it all and probably it will be nothing serious, so try not to worry. I had all this really badly, and after that it came and went and came and went, each time getting a little less severe. I still have it on and off - at the moment I am dizzy, which I didn't get before, but I get the blocked ears and head, the ringing etc. What I take when it flares up is Sudofed tablets either for sinus problems or the other type sudofed tablets for congestion and they work quite well. Good luck and try not to worry too mcuh. What exactly is scaring you?

Dear need some help. All of us in here have ETD,but there appears that quite a lot of us have varying symptoms. What I've written previously to others doesn't solve any problems at all,but at least you know you're not alone. No point in getting scared or worried. That doesn't help either.I've just started on a Mindfulness course which is proving quite interesting.

Look it up.It could help you deal with your problem.

    Dear Needy:

I have ETD in my left ear and just about every day at 3 o'clock.  If I lay down or hang my heard between my knees it will get better.  I also get balance problems but not obviously happening when I have ETD.  I've had all sorts of tests even an MRI and several medications; none give my Dr. any help.

I wish I could give you a helpful answer.  I am supposed to be going to Physical Therapy to organize my right ear which is supposedly the reason for my lack of balances.  If that helps the ETD I'll let you know.
