Are eye floaters a neurological symptom?

I started seeing eye floaters in both eyes suddenly after a week of injuring my neck. I saw an opthalmologist who tested for retinal detachment and wanted me to see a specialist as she thought there could be a retinal hole. The specialist did more tests and said he didn't see anything wrong with my eyes.

I asked him about the floaters and didn't get a convincing response. He did mention that someone floaters could be due to a neurological issue (I have had brain MRI to rule out any issue) and that the floaters will "go away" after some time.

My understanding is that floaters are due to condensation of the vitreous fluid. Are there different types of floaters? Why did he think it'll go away on its own?

Floaters will never go away as they can not leave the eye. But after time you will get use to them and many times as the gel continues to liquify they will fall below your line of vision. Vitreous degeneration is a natural process that everyone will eventually go through but if you had a neck injury or some kind of jolt that can cause it to happen sooner. Many people will get floaters after cataract surgery as well from the vibration of the surgery. As long as you are not having flashes of light and there is not a retinal hole there is nothing to worry about. : )

How long do your floaters last and how often do they show up?  k51095 is correct and you're I'm sure you are fine. I ask because I have seizures that start out as visual auras. If you had something similar you would have noticed by now probably. In my case I see what I like to call a blinking multicolored disco ball the follows my central vision and starts to expand until I pass out.  So unless your floaters develop into something like that I think you're fine haha

Everyone is different, but they can come and go. I get them occasionally because I also have a genetic eye condition that left the tissues in my eyes are very fickle/weak and as a consequences vitreous fluid kind of leaks or whatever. My retina already tore and detached in my left eye so I just look out to make sure they aren't extreme or sudden.
