Are good and bad days normal?

Hello, I have a suspected viral inner ear illness and I'm on week 9 with it now. I have had good days and bad but last week I had three really good days, I thought maybe this was the end! Then on Thursday morning I woke up with my right ear ringing, and on and off pressure in both ears. It's been 4 days and the ringing is still constant 24/7 but the pressure isn't there anymore. Since the ringing started I have felt worse! I feel like I have gone back weeks in my recovery. Is this all Normal though? Could I still have a bad week but next week be ok again?

Hi Melody. I. Afraid this seems to bet he recovery pattern. Just when you think your done it comes back and bites you on the bum. I've hadVN for six months now. Did all the meds etc which just slowed down compensation process .finally saw a specialist in otology who was able yo reassure and do all relevant tests. You feel like you lose a whole chunk of your life. I'm now seeing a specialist vestibular Physio who is putting met through my paces, I'm drug free, anxiety has reduced and generally getting there. I did learn that the pressure we feel in ears is from muscles. If you use a heat bag on your neck you should feel an improvement there. You will recover I promise .take care xx

I also did all the meds for the first two to three weeks as no one told me they delay compensation. I have been med free for at least 6 weeks now. I was taking Prozac for 9 days but it was making me worse, I couldn't eat or sleep which isn't helping. Plus everyone has told me it's an awful drug. It's so hard where I live to see the right specialists that u need to see! Takes months and months of waiting. I hold onto the day that I will make a full recovery. Thank u for commenting. I wish u all the best

Hi, shame you couldn't stick with the anti anxiety Prozac. It does sometimes make you worse for a couple of weeks but then the improvement can be dramatic.im a nurse and work in mental health so I speak with some knowledge lol I'm taking seroxatwhich is supposed to be evil to get off but it worked for me as a low dose for menopausal symptoms so  I got my gp to up the dose slightly to handle all the anxiety which is caused by this vestibular problem. I felt rubbish for a few days but now I'm so glad I started it. Hope you get sorted xx

Hi there melody, I've got possible recurring Labyrinthitis. Had it back in 2014 and April this year it came back.

Im currently on week 10 and I'm still having constant symptoms, but some days are better than others, I might have a few better days then have a rubbish day.

I never took any meds, I've carried on the best that I can, driving, work, getting out and about.  Think I might need vrt.

Do u get tinnitus with that? That's one thing that's confused me! I had it for brief seconds a few weeks ago and now Iv had it non stop for 4 days. I don't get why it would suddenly start 9 weeks down the track!

I've had tinnitus for years due to work environment, it doesn't bother me.  I haven't got any hearing loss so I'm not sure if it's lab

I can't stand it but it could be because I'm so anxious about everything now so it's frustrating me

Hi Melody. I just want to reassure you that you WILL get better. I still get " off" days even now after more than a year. I struggled for months in the beginning and it's true to say I sometimes thought I might as well be dead rather than put up with some of the terrifying symptoms I was experiencing because they seemed so extreme. I didn't ever get a definitive diagnosis because my symptoms didn't fall into the "normal" categories. However, I suspect it started with labrynthitis which I'd also had about 10 years previously. I was lucky first time around because it only lasted a month or so. This time I was left with 30 percent damage causing slightdeafness in one ear. The tinnitus started almost from day one but is not present every day though I have to admit it is there MOST days. Sometimes it"s barely audible and others it's a high pitched ringing sound. Strangely enough I get it in both ears rather than one. I have noticed that the louder it is,the more likely it is I'll have a bad day. Rather weird, but looking at my mobile phone for long periods makes the tinnitus louder and can also bring on dizzy spells even now!!! Anyway, take care Melody and don't worry too much. You'll be ok eventually.

Hi - I'm going on week 5 with VN. I usually follow the pattern of I have a few good days and then a terrible day. I just recently had an episode yesterday that I got a terrible headache and dizziness for about 6 hours. Finally in the 5th hour know took some meclizine because i was getting so bad was nauseated. Prior to this episode yesterday, I hadnt had an episode in like 4-5 days. It's the most frustrating thing beccause as soon I get anywhere close to feeling ready to go back to work, I have an episode. You're not alone!
