Are my symptoms a cyst or could it be something else?

I'm completely stressed at the moment because of pelvic I have started to experience over the past 2 months. It is taking its toll on my mental health and putting a lot of strain on my relationship with my fiance. He is doing his best to support me but we have had no sex life for the past 2 months and he is clearly worried about me.

I'm 28 and I've always had extremely very painful periods to the point that I thought I was going to pass out. I have to take lots of pain killers. I also had bowel trouble during my periods. During intercourse I sometimes have deep pain which can cause me to jump.

For the past 5-6 months my periods have been going increasingly brown. Then after a period 2 months ago I started experiencing right side pelvic pain. I went to the doctor who thought it was an infection but the swabs came back clear and the antibiotics have not cleared the symptoms.

My periods since have been more "normal" but have gone back to being very heavy and painful. I have also had blood tests and an ultrasound. The ultrasound was negative for abnormalities in ovaries, cervix, and uterus. The blood test showed my inflammation markers where up. An internal examination showed nothing abnormal on the cervix.

The pain is mostly on the right side, in my pelvis, hip, lower back, shooting down my leg and is there everyday. It can be prickly pain, shooting pain, stabbing pain, some cramping. It is definitely worse around my period. I'm also having bowel trouble with wind but I'm also stressed so that may be the cause? Sometimes feeling nauseous and some bloating but not often.

I've got a CT scan due in the next couple of weeks as well. I'm just really worried in case it is something serious.

Please any advice would be appreciated! smile

This definitely sounds like an ovarian cyst. I had all these symptoms. The dr told me that the reason for the pain is from the cyst bursting and the fluid is irritating the organs.

The dr told me my cyst was small and shouldn't be hurting me. But guess what, it hurt. Like heck. So make sure to get multiple opinions.

Everyone's body is different. It could also be endometriosis. Your dr will need to do an ultrasound on your ovaries and uterus. Normally they will tell you that birth control will help but once you get off birth control you will most likely go back to the same exact symptoms. Depending on what's REALLY wrong it may require surgery.

I hope this helped! Best of luck to you!

      Hi Alison.

Thank you for the reply. I have had an abdonimal ultrasound but not a transvaginal ultrasound. Nothing showed up so they sent me home but I have been back and forth because the pain is worrying.

It's not agonising but I'm aware of it most of the time. I'm going to go to a&e again today because it's making me very anxious.

      Thank you again smile

    Hi

Sounds like an ovarian cyst. Can they do a vaginal ultra sound? Sometimes what they will do is watch and wait to see if it goes away. Mine got bad 5cm with pain and I couldn't hardly drive. pain down the leg even. I got laparoscopic surgery. I actually had fluid in my Fallopian tubes my ovaries were ok. I had my tubes tied 8 years ago and it just filled with fluid but man it was painful! I do want to say if you do have to get surgery its not bad at all if they can do it laparoscopic . It just feels soar and pain free from the fluid which looked like cysts on the ultra sound. The CT will show for sure whats going on. I totally understand it makes you have anxiety because your in pain. Can you get a second opinion and get in quicker?

      Hi deedee,

Thank you for this information. They haven't even suggested a transvaginal ultrasound to me but I'm going back to a&e today I'm feeling sick with worry.

The pain is usually bearable but sometimes can be very uncomfortable. I have seen multiple doctors because I have visted the emergency room many times but no one seems to be that concerned because my pulse rate and temp are normal.

I will have to ask whether they think it is a cyst because they won't give me a straight opinion!

      Thank you gain xx
