Are these external haemorrhoids? Had them for more than 5 months! Please help!

Hello, I'm a 24 year old female and I developed IBS-C about 5 months ago.

When my constipation first started I did not realise that I had this condition and so I was just straining and pushing a lot in order to have a BM and thus I developed these lumps on the outside of my anus.

They are not painful or itchy at all and I don't have any bleeding. They are not always outside my anus, they only protrude when I'm sitting on the toilet. The attached image shows them at their worst (when I've been sitting on the toilet for a long time), they are not always fully out like this.

Are these external haemorrhoids?

I have been in contact with my doctor over the phone about these haemorrhoids (because of COVID I have not had an in-person appointment because this is not an emergency) and he said that they should go away on their own within a few weeks / a couple of months with exercise and a high fibre diet. However, I have had these lumps now for over 5 months and I am getting very worried that they will never go away. Does anyone have any advice or tips I can try out?

So far, I have been making sure I do 10,000 steps and I have been eating 25g of fibre everyday. I also take a hot bath everyday for half an hour which I have heard can help and I have also applied over the counter creams such as Germoloids but nothing seems to be shrinking them! 😦

Hi Sara, this is the same situation with me too. was not able to understand what are these and what kind of doctor I can approach to. whether doctor visit is needed. I use cold water and observed they retract immediately.

Even just touching them with ice for few mins also helped, which i tried few times. But depends on individual to feel comfortable.

Hope i too get some info from any replies.

Hi Bart, thank you so much for your reply! I also thought that there was a possibility that these could be skin tags as I have read that external haemorrhoids are extremely painful but as I said these lumps have never hurt or caused bother they are just not a very nice thing to have. Although, when I looked up images of skin tags they seem to be a much slimmer / thinner looking piece of skin hanging down, I haven't found any images in which they look like the lumps I have so I am unsure. I will try epsom salt and witch hazel though, thank you so much for your advice!
