are these side effects?

Hello everyone,

Just been prescribed Pizotifen by my GP and, like most of you on here, seem to a bit surprised at the horrific list of weight gain side effects.

I've been getting sore head and eyes most days for the last few months, steadily getting worse to the point of causing dizzyness and sickness over the last few weeks.

MY GP has prescribed Pizotifen to see if the headaches are migrain related before investigating any other avenues.

I've only taken one so far - last night - and today I feel worse than ever. I feel very dizzy, tired, confused, sore eyes and head - oddly disconnected from the rest of the world. Has anyone esle experienced this?

Because the symptoms today are so similar to those of the last few weeks - only worse - I don't know if it's down to side effects from the drugs, or if whatever is causing the symptoms in the first place is just getting worse [and the pills are doing nothing].

Anyone had any similar experience?

Thanks. Chris.

I was on pizotifen about 3 years ago. I can definately relate to the feeling confused and disconnected from the world. I also lost alot of my memory, and it took a long time for the confusion spells to reside. I also went from a size 8 to a size 12 because i lost all energy that i couldnt even run up a set of stairs at work (i hasten to add i was 22 at the time and a dance teacher, so it wasnt because i was unfit!)

They tried to put me on them again recently but i could only remember the name coz it rang a bell, not why!

i'd avoid it if i was you

I have been suffering intermittently from what was diagnosed as labyrinthitis - seriously dizzy spells and uncontrollable vomiting. It was thought it could have been meniere's disease and I was put on Serco tablets, to no avail. Then the consultant heard that I had suffered since childhood with migraines and thought there was a possible link with vertigo, and put me on Pizotifen. I had to work up to taking three a night.....they do make me drowsy, especially if I have drunk alcohol. But the dizziness and vomiting have stopped and I have not had an attack since taking the medication (8 months now). I have never had any of the dramatic side effects that many posters have complained about..I think I would be very concerned if I did and would advise you to return to your doctor.

I have been on Pizotifen 0.5mg for 25 years. It was the only thing that had any effect on my migraines and revolutionised my life. Yes, it makes me hungry, I am heavier than I was but I am not overweight for my height. I find now that I only have to take 1 or 2 a week and they keep my migraines at bay. Pizotifen was truly a wonder drug for me.
