I have pain on and off pain in thyroid area and can feel it when I swallow I am either having hot flushes or am freezing cold, feel really tired and have dizziness, arms feel heavy and have palpitations. I am 55 female so hot flushes could still be menpause but the cold? GP did wonder if it was thyroid as this started after a virul infection. but blood tests came back clear. Have had a couple of really bad attacks of dizziness with chest pain and left arm feeling heavy, have been to hospital and they have ruled out chest or lung problems. Was diagnosed with anemia but second test came back clear, I was taking a B12/iron supplements so that could have sorted it out and all my latest bloods are clear. The pain in thyroid area goes down in top of chest area and makes me want to cough, a sort of irritated cough, no pleghm. Do not want to keep bothering GP but would if I thought it was something that could be dealt. If this sounds like thyroid problems are there are foods or natural products I can try to see if it gets better in the meantime? Thanks for reading, hope you can help.

I have hyperparathyroidism. It's different to thyroid problems as it affects the 4 little glands which sit on the thyroid. One of these glands has become overactive because a tiny tumour ( pretty certain to be benign), has grown on one of those glands.
My calcium levels in my blood are sky high. My blood pressure is high too.
Have you had an ultrasound scan? That would show if you had a problem with any of those glands. From what I have read and been told, it has nothing to do with the thyroid itself. Look up the symptoms of hyperparathyroidism. They very similar. HTP if left, will damage the heart. I have an appointment in July to see a endocologist, and then hopefully have the offending growth removed by an ENT surgeon. Stay in touch and do go to see your GP. Download the symptoms and causes and take them with you perhaps. I've heard that after the procedure you are 'walking on air' again. At the moment I could stay in bed forever :-/

Our Thyroid gland is a very important gland and it makes 2 horomones T3 & T4. It sits on top of your trachea, (Windpipe), and it had a Butterfly shape to it. Now ehn you swallow, the doctor can stand behind you and palpate the gland for lumps or nodules. The nodules can grow and so can the gland and the gland can press kind of hard on you which makes it hard to swallow. Sometimes people develop a Goiter. The Goiter goes around the neck and it can press on you and that is the gland being swollen.
Some theories on why we get thyroid disease are, a family history, stress on the gland/preganancy/puberty/etc..., and Epstein-Barr virus which is also called (Mono), and changing in life-aging. Also 3rd world poor countries with poor diet/ no iodine etc..
The only proper way is to order blood work for TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Horomone) and T3 & T4 horomones. I am told you may need a specialist to order T3 & T 4 levels in UK.
It is funny you mention anemia because for some weird reason, I suffered with low B-12 also and it has been linked to low thyroid. Now I am 54, and have been going through the lovely change of life also . Some of that could be your hot flashes in your neck and chest and face area be due to menopause! In Hyperthyroidism you get Hot but it also comes along with a high heart rate, bug eyed, extreme weight loss. The late Don Knotts (American Actor) had hyper thyroidism, he had the bug eyed look and was skinny.
Doctors are there for you to bother! LOL, when it comes to your health you need to call and see him. The doctor can order a TSH level, and feel your thyroid gland while you swallow. they may ask you to drink water while they press on it.
Now sorry - there are no foods that solve this. However eat a gluten free diet may be better for you. It decreases IBS or bowel trouble.
In short they have a lot of meds on the market (a pill) you take every day. It replaces the needed horomones. You will feel much better once you start on it. Please call your GP and ask for an appt. so you can get the medicine you need. Don't worry about bothering the doctor, you are worth it!!! Be well, Shelly
